Reasonable price for a clutch/flywheel install?

Hello all,
I purchased a stage III clutch and a lightened flywheel and was set to take a couple days and install it myself. Long story short, work has gotten crazy busy and I just don't have the time.

The deal is, the couple of estimates I've gotten were nothing short of breathtaking (the bmw dealer wanted over $2200 just for labor alone) and a lot of the garages i've called won't even touch it since it's "owner purchased parts." The lowest price i've come across so far is about $950 for the install. What sort of ballpark should I be looking for?

I'm in Lawrence/Kansas City area if anyone knows a good shop they'd recommend.

Thanks!
Beau

The going price ive encountered is from 1000 to 1500 @independent mini shops. Over 2k at dealerships.
It not an easy clutch to replace.

Where are you located?

As others have said the going rate for indy shops will be between 800 and 1500. Dealers are usually over 2k.

It's a complicated job, a lot of shops drop the motor to do it. Some shops that really know what they're doing can do it without doing that. It's still a good 6+ hour job.

Lol, Yea, it actually tones down a bit when you drive agressively. Babying it doesn't work, you have to be rough and show it who's boss.

Stage 3 from what I've heard is very much like stock...

I have a stage 3 and the pedal effort is very similar to stock where it differs is the engagement. The stage 3 engagement is very sharp, I found it a little bit harder to drive than stock, it takes some getting used to. In my opinion, now that I have one I could never go back to stock.

I have essentially the same experience except that I honestly believe that it is a tad more than "a little bit" harder- it's noticeably harder to drive (my wife couldn't drive the car at all at first with the stage 3 whereas she could before). It's easy to get used to and nothing that will prevent you from driving your car. You will, however, have to learn to drive it again. The clutch/pressure plate engagement is really a lot more forceful, in order to allow better power handling...it must be. There is very little slip to the stage 3 clutch, in addition. If I try to slip it sometimes, it literally feels like the clutch/pressure plate and flywheel are skidding right off of each other rather than engaging and slipping.

I must emphasize, though, that this post is not meant to dissuade you from getting the clutch. I LOVE my stage 3 and also wouldn't go back to stock. But, I hate to under-emphasize the difference, lest someone be taken aback by it.

I have a FX300 clutch too, and the pedal feel is lighter than my very worn stock clutch. I'm still getting used to how it engages, and sometimes kangaroo hop the car when I first start out. I just need to adjust my starts a little bit.
