Hey Guys and Gals,

Thought I would share this with you all. I am doing a portfolio piece on friday with my mini, and yesterday I had to shoot some test footage with a rig I had fabricated. This is just filmed at a business park, but the actual movie will be shot on the backside of the Santa Ynez Mountains and will be some excellent footage of some canyon carving! There will be about 5-8 different mounts done along with some off car footage. Hope you enjoy, by the end of the weekend I should have the finished piece done. I'll be sure to post it for all.

Quicktime Movie

Pics of Rig:

Enjoy,

Blake

It won't play on your site, get a blank white box. And if I download it, I can't find anything to play it.

Did you format it for mac only?

Sorry davbret, I put it up at a mp4 format, I'll put a link to a regular quicktime movie. Also I'll put together some pics of the rig.

It worked on my pee cee just fine.

Cool video.

Is the blur effect on the edges deliberate?

Dude,

That is Sweet!

So is the Video! More More More!

What kinda suction mounts did you use? Think they will hold in an autocross?? I've got access to the speedrail, Gobo Heads, & Camera mount, just need the suction cups.

For doing that yourself, it's very professional looking (and sounding for that matter ). Me likes.

Glad everyone liked it. I'm also glad it looks professional because that's actually what I do. Just because of the economy I am doing more web and graphic design stuff than photography. As for the stability of the rig, with a bit shorter rods (about 1.5-2 ft) It can hold a 100lb camera. It can take quite a beating. For the shoot tomorrow, I am going to be also rigging up a safety system incase there is any torquing of the body work through the hard turns therefore the camera won't hit the ground. The original clip I had was about 5 minutes but to keep the video quality nice, I had to shorten it for you guys, and gals. I promise the real shoot will not disappoint. Think of some of the greatest roads you have driven in the mini, make it only one lane (total) and then multiply it's excellence times 10, and that is what we are dealing with. Guess its one of the benefits of paying such high rent to live in santa barbara. Got to shower, just got back from a shoot. Be back soon

Blake

Sorry, I'm actually a believer quality not quantity. Besides, would you like me to post the 5 minutes of footage of me driving around a business park? Kind of defeats the purpose. Like I said, this is just test footage, not really worth the bandwidth to post a big movie of pre-production footage. Bandwidth does cost money (just as mferguson) and having 100+ people downloading a 50mb file can eat up bandwidth really fast. not really sure why you have a thing for negative posts towards me? Sorry for going on a tirade, just that its been a long day, and I try to do something nice and share some footage with everyone and for someone to say it's not worth the time because it's short is kind of like looking a gift horse in the mouth.

how did you produce the sweet, smooth motion blur in the background? and what type of camera/editor did you use?

glad you liked the effects sockdaddy. I do most of my editing in final cut pro 4, but occasionally switch over to adobe after effects if I need to do more complex effects. As for the motion blur in the background, since the mini actually doesn't move in the camera's view, on the background does, if you apply say a motion blue at a high sample rate, the mini will come across nice and clean and crisp, while the background looks very alive. You see that kind of look alot in still photography shots of cars with the backgrounds are really wild, I was just trying to mimic that since I think plain jane video footage can suck. But at the same time, over edited pieces can also be unnecessary (like those awful page turning transitions or the curtain effects) Sorry I'm rambling. Oh, one last thing, the test footage was just shot on a consumer grade mini DV cam, (canon elura 2, if I remember correctly), the actual footage will be shot on a different camera. The elura was convenient and insanely light so it actually did the job. Hope this answers your questions.

Glad you liked it Bk_MCS, the finished product should be somewhere between 2-4 minutes long, and it is going to be a portfolio piece for some of my photography/video/design work that I do, and it's one hell of an excuse to haul *** in the mini. Although I have a sneaky suspision I'm might get a little carried away and do a longer one. Thanks Mightytminiz
