Drivetrain Seattle RMW Tune Results!
Seattle RMW Tune Results!
Here is a compilation of tune results from those who have been so kind as to post them. It should go without saying, but it won't. These are not my results (although mine WILL be posted when I get home on Saturday) and I am merely gathering the information into an easier-to-read format. Please feel free to add your tune results as you get them! Lets try to keep the thread as on-topic as possible and we can still chit-chat in the other RMW thread

Hmm. So I assume the initial pull is 194WHP? So if it is that would calculate to roughly 213 BHP correct? So if a stock 2006 MCS has 168 BHP then his initial mods: CAI, pulley, and a cat-back gained him 45 BHP? Or am I reading this wrong?

Great gains under the curve, certainly drives much, much better.

Question...did fingershooter have ANY previous tune or was he simply running the pulley/intake/exhaust/injectors with no tune to make the 194 pre-RMW figure? Also, does Jan consider it "safe" to do this for a prolonged period of time? I ask because I plan to do these upgrades but it will be a while before I can get to Jan for a tune based on where I live. Hopefully this isn't too off topic, but I'm sure others will have similar questions.
I don't know about fingershooter's pre-tune ECU.
And I'm not the Wizard of tuning but can report on my observations. *Most* of the modded/untuned Mini AFR charts i've seen go pretty rich in the center and lean out as they run out of injector way up top. As long as you aren't raping it all the way to redline the worst you suffer is a sooty tailpipe (you might want to see a doctor about that!) and some reduced power output. And honestly, I'm not too worried about knock up top because the most susceptible region to knock in any motor is the torque peak, where coincidentally you are also running the richest with stock fuel mapping.

I was very surprised by the initial numbers that my car ran.

About 64k. Talking to Jan, it seems like there is a lot of variation between cars, with the later models usually being stronger due to better tolerances.
I'm not too hung up on the numbers to be honest - the gains, while not huge, were pretty nice. Much better area under the curve, and Jan was suprised that i still have the stock header, as the torque curve is pretty broad. Overall i'm really pleased with the change in the car - it pulls better, is much smoother, and now i at least know that it's running as well as it can be.
My only disappointment was Jan. After all the posts about him on NAM I either expected the son of Satan with horn's and all, or a eerie angelic glow and the sound of harps. All I got was a really nice bloke, sharp as a tack, and a fine engineer.

One note on my mods, the injectors I put on only a couple of nights prior to the tune. The rest of the mods (CAI, Pulley, Cat-back) have been on the car for over a year.
Hope this helps.

Yep plugs, belt and boost (15PSi) are all good. Been thinking about compression check. Thanks for the ideas.
Having said this, I am very satisfied with how my numbers turned out and how the car drives now.I personally don't hold a lot of confidence in the specific numbers (high or low), but instead the deviation between the before and after. While my peak to peak torque only increased 4, my torque increased across the whole dynamic range. So count me another happy camper.

Yes, the 194 was my initial pull and I was completely surprised. Even Jan seemed a little surprised at the number and ran it again, and it pulled a 193.? (don't remember exactly). I certainly have no explaination for these numbers.

Had a fine time at Speed Factory today. Jan is a nice guy who is very knowledgable and will answer all your questions. I was happy with results and it only took about 45 minutes to finish. My MINI is an 05 MCS Cabrio with a 17% pulley, obx header, 380cc injectors, Pilo Racing CAI and NGK Iridium (7) plugs. Pulled 200 even but the torque improved across the board and all the rough spots are gone.
