RMW Header Install

Anyone out there done a header install yet.
I have not tryed it yet. but i did investigate how it would be done.
i need to get the right size to get the O2 sensors out.
And i wanted to know if you can slip the header in from the bottom or do you do it from the top?
Also would you need to take the back half of the subframe out of the car or what?
Any tips and tricks anyone got out there.

Colin

Oh and an estimated time to have it completed.

I assisted a NAM member swap his OBX header with an OEM one--he was returning it to stock--and it would have been pretty simple if he didn't already have an aftermarket front sway bar which was thicker than stock, and it caused clearance issues for pulling the header out. We spent all day wrestling with that--but once that was solved--it was a pretty simple swap.

I did an OBX install as well, and I found it to be a little bit of a pain in the ***. I had the stock front swaybar and it was still a challenge getting the header in and out, like OctaneGuy said. And no, you can't do it from the top...lol we tried that when we were having a heck of a time getting it past the swaybar, needless to say, it doesnt work.

Just drive up to minicorsa and have Danny install it...knowing him he'll have it done in 10 minutes.

I DON'T think Danny is doing is doing exhaust work anymore. Give him a call to double check though.

As for doing the header install. Obviously a lift makes it a lot easier. It's hard to work in the limited space that jack stands or ramps provide.

Oh so you had the same issue, lol. It was frustrating because it was just a fraction off--it was so close yet so far to wiggle the header out. I agree about MiniCorsa--his rates are very reasonable, and he'll get it done right the first time--and without burning yourself---I've had the misfortune of bare skin touching a header--and let me tell you, it doesn't hurt at first and there isn't much blood loss due to the heat cauterizing the skin--but I've got a scar on the top of my wrist where the glove I was wearing revealed my skin as I was fidgeting trying to get to a fastener...8 months after the accident, it still wasn't healed.

I installed a milltek with jackstands in my garage. If you follow Randy's how-to it pretty much has all the details. You need to remove a heat shield in the front and at just the right angle the header will slide out. Looking at pcitures of the RMW header the piping is much longer before the collector at different angles so hopefully it slides in in the same space.

One part that sucks doing all by yourself is holding the header and gasket from the top while trying to line up the holes for the bolts. I sliced my finger pretty good on the gasket.

Also, the stock bolts on the cat/exhaust flange thread into the stock header flange, no bolts. So depending on what hardware is connecting the exhaust to the header you'll need a bolt/nut combo.

Not too hard to do but some bits are a pain. The stock header can be brought out from the top but you have to undo the power steering header tank and the coolant tank so you can move them about. I then had to fit the aftermarket header from under the car though. I had it on two ramps which gives just enough height, could really do with being on a proper car ramp.

I ended up putting the stock one back on as the header I bought was crap.

I then fitted a janspeed header when I bought Jans (RMW) head and I fitted the header when I fitted the head. Much easier this way as you can put the header in from the top as there is enough room with the head off .

So my advice would be buy Jans head and do it all at once

Come on guys. RMW's long header would be imposable to do but the shorty should be a slam dunk. I took my stock one off and had the OBX on in one hour flat. Just get the car high in the air.

IT's not that difficult, I did my header swap by myself, in about 2 hours. I have a larger front sway bar also. All you need to do is get the front of the car on stands, fish the header out by swinging the cat to one side and sort of pull the header out sideways. It's hard to explain but I had no trouble getting it out, or the new one in.
For the install, use a stand to support the cat part of the header underneath the car while you line up the gasket.

Got it Done!!!
Love love love it.
Everyone should have a header brand regardless. the Curve is sooo much better.
And the install Is pretty basic just time consuming.
Very very fun to drive now.

Just wanted to know if anyone had exaust leak issues with it.
I think mine may have a leak. due to a missing manifold bolt.
I dont know where to get another or even what size they are...
So if someone could point me in the right direction...

Not to start a huge off topic about this.. But..

You all seem to have installed a header. Did you have a cat back first and then add a header? And also, how much louder did the header (of any brand) make the car?

Most aftermarket headers will increase noise by some quotient, they differ depending on design though. I'd be willing to bet that an overwhelming majority of people interested in headers have already gone the route of modifying the "Cat-Back" portion of their exhaust already.

I'm fairly certain that Silversmoke had a Miltek Cat-Back.

I have Jan's street header hooked up to my stock cat-back. I did get a deeper sound but under way, it's not much louder unless you lay into it, then there's a deep growl. On the freeway, it's as quiet as stock.

I also have his cam and a 15% pulley and had it tuned on Thursday. 214.9hp/187.4tq. Jan tells me to not touch it when I asked him what gains I would get if I added a CAI and exhaust. I guess I'll just save up for a Jesus head.

I dident mess with the Mufflers or things like that yet but im sure i will.
Im not fond of the ricy sound that the header has added to the car.
Need deeper!!!!
and i cant wait to get it tuned. I just need injectors so if anyone has some for sale let me know.
