alta turbo inlet hose, m7 vortex scoop and upper grill

well i just finally received my products from alta (inlet hose was on a huge backorder coast2coast said) and im going to prepare to install them. btw i didnt know where to put this thread because i got both a performance mod and exterior mod so i figure this will do

the tube looks great as well as the upper grill.

i noticed a couple of stress/crack marks on the scoop. it looks like wavy lines near the right opening but i figure if i paint it it can hide it. unless someone can tell me that that area will be prone to stress/crack marks.

well here are a couple of images just to tease i guess

for those of you guys who are curious what the texture is on this hood scoop, its a smooth finish with a dull gloss. i feel that its highly recommended that if you wanted this scoop to be black that you either dyi painting or go to a body shop to get it painted.

one thing that surprised me was that i got a drill bit with the whole package.
hey alta, did you put this in the box on accident? haha im really serious i was like when i saw it in there. if it was a gift then thanks?

ok brb, im going to install now and ill post up pics.

have someone hold the upper grill in place from the ends before marking for holes or the holes may not be in the correct spot

so installing was extremely easy. almost as easy as taking a shower
no really, i thought it may have some type of difficulty but i found none at all. great job alta.

i did find two little things that i wanted to address though. im not sure if i got a bad batch or not but after installing through the turbo side first, i noticed that i was about 2 inches too short to the OEM intake. so i ended up putting it on the intake side first and then i noticed i was about an inch or two short. i told myself maybe i have to really force it down. when i compare to the oem tube vs. alta, you didnt have to like "force" the oem tube to fit, it just naturally slides in where with the alta you have to clamp down one side extremely tight and then force the other side of the tube and clamp it down super tight. so i had to find a way to compromise because of its length and so here are some images to show you guys what i mean.

its hard to tell on this pic but because of its length, it doesnt fully wrap around the turbo part. so theres a little bit of spacing from the edge of the tube to the turbo itself. heres another picture....

this image clearly shows what i mean. i didnt know what to do about it. i know there is a possible chance of a leak but maybe someone can guide me to the right way in what to do here...

heres an image on the intake side...

i too had to do it on this side as well. the spacing here was a little larger than the turbo side. and again, for those who are reading this thread, i am really forcefully pushing the oem intake "structure" and the alta tube while tightening the clamps and this was the best i can do.

well, i hope you enjoy these pictures, i just got back from OSH to buy a dremel, a pretty cool one in fact. its like a pencil grip and cordless

gonna start working on the grills now.

to be continued.

i heard you need to drill some holes for the scoop, which would explain the drillbit you got. Looking forward to your updates!

i was going to take a lot of angles of the scoop. so if anyone of you guys have suggestions dont be afraid to ask. i dont think i have ever seen anyone post pics of the scoop other than m7 or am i wrong?

so my dremel ran out of battery again so i have to postpone the grill again. i figure what the hey, i should start working on the scoop.

i like the look of it because its not like the "out there" type of look. its very subtle similar to like the new toyota tacoma sport model. well anyways....

pics.

well there you have it. if anyone want other angles or whatever dont be afraid to ask. i cant decide if i wanna do a CR, matte or gloss paint job on it... this is gonna be tough.

here you go

as you guys can tell.. its a very subtle piece. if lets say i painted it CR, you'd barely see the "bulge" (sp?)

i had to do this
i have a 8 car driveway so im pretty lucky that i can set up a scene like this.
i felt kinda sorry for my dog because shes afraid of heights. she wont even jump down from steps! not only that shes blind so thats a double wammy.

its kinda hard for me to do a whole side shot because of the trees we have in the yard so this is the best i can do for now.

enjoy.

you drill a hole into the hood but its not even noticeable unless you pop the hood open cuz thats where you tighten the nut on.

Hey Guys...

The drill bit and step bit was not a present from Alta....Come on...

I included the bits (expensive parts) so you the consumer didn't have to
go and shop at Home Depot in the middle of Sunday afternoon, when drilling two small holes and getting the scoop on for a great afternoon ride is more important.

A surprise to come soon..

m7 peter do you need to trim the metal under the scoop opening. i saw a pic of the underhood of the yellow mini in your add and it looked as if it was trimmed.

Hey...

I did some trimming early on as I wanted maximum airflow, with that said there's no need to trim the metal if you don't want to.

The CF scoop landed yesterday in my lap... and there' some other
"got to have" products in that buch... heheheh All CF by the way..

Pricing will come next week.

Nammerz, looks good
How close is the finish and color of the scoop to the flat black of the fender flares? I'm thinking of getting one and leaving it as is to match my fender flares.

Peter (M7), do we need to finish and thus seal the scoop or can we leave it as is with no future probs?

A suggestion before installing the M7 scoop (this is what I am planning for mine).

Tape off the scoop area on the underside of the hood and tape off the top side opening also. Spray the area with a mat black paint so when the scoop is installed, it will look the M7 installation without cutting the metal.

I actually plan to spray my area with a rubberized undercoating material in mat black. Serve two purposes, hide the sheet metal and protect it even more since more stuff will end up that pocket.

For mine, I purchase matching MINI roof black paint and paint it to match. On dark silver hood with racing stripes should look sharp

Man I really want that sharp looking CF version ! I knew I should have waited just a little longer.
