how about this?

has anyone ever tried just to join the pipes at the base of the T?
may take the tin sound out, the tailpipes will not move around, ![IMG][/IMG]
can call it the bypass mod.

That won't work as the exhaust runs thru the resonator on the right, exits out of it and goes to the muffler on the left and then exits the muffler with the twin tips.

The tips won't move around after doing the mod.

for reference to what bigshot is talking about:

it's cut up but you can see that a y-fitting isnt going to work from the center pipe.

i think you're missing it... the left side has an exit, the right side does not, it overflows into the left muffler.

what i am i thinking is bypass do not eliminate the muffler sort of like a silencer on a intake. just that i read the other responses and some wrote their pipes would move around and would not be straight, also that the sound was not deep, more higher pitched.

i understand what youre saying but i think it's much more involved than you think. here's another photo without the shield in place:

so here's what you'd have to do:

seems like more work to do that than just buy a new exhaust or used exhaust that you know will work and fit.

also, keep in mind that the new muffler exit will not fit the way i even drew it because the battery box is in the way.

on the c6 corvettes they are boring holes threw the side and threw the cross over tubes then resealing the outer shell.

The resonator is not a true "muffler". Has a completely different interior and packing. So the sound and performance would be different side to side.

Anyone in the Chicago area have the one ball so I can see what it sounds like in person? Also, anyone know of a local muffler shop that's done this on Minis before?

I just did the one ball mod. i have never done anything mechanical or of that sort before but this was sooo easy.

i was just sitting on my porch looking at my car in the drive way and decided to have some fun.

i put it up on some ramps (a lift would have made it ALOT easier)

cut, weld. done!

cheap, weight reduction, sounds even better! thanks DIY forums
