Alta's just the company that has them all, but wouldnt installing those parts help boost the MPG a bit? i mean you'd be freeing up the the cars breathing and as long as you dont always drive with your foot through the fire wall its should get better MPG right? just something i was wondering. and as as added bonus it would add power too. can anyone back me up? or think that'd be right?

It should, but I have a hard time not using all the extra power.

how so? do the revs just climb like crazy sence the engines more free breathing? or is it because its just hard not to want to go faster? have you ever noticed any improvements at all in mpg or has it just gone down or stayed the same? say like in 6th gear on the highway? also...dont kill me... i have a auto :/ in know the transmission has limits and what not but this is purely just speculation.

Lower gas mileage is only because it's even more fun to put the right foot down. The mods are capable of increasing gas mileage - that doesn't mean YOU are.

1-5 sounds realistic. However, my right foot will never let me know.

Don't get me wrong or anything as I intend to add some Alta parts to the Clubman. BUT

When you add more air and less restriction guess what you have to have to compensate??? MORE FUEL

Don't EVER kid yourself or let anyone tell you adding performance parts that let the car flow more air in and exhaust out WILL increase mileage as you must add fuel to work with the other 2. Is it going to be a huge MPG diffrenece?? Not sure but it will go down, garunteed.

The big thing you are forgetting is EFFICIENCY.

Keep telling yourself that.

Efficieny or not. More Air + More Fuel = HP. If your not adding any fuel your not making HP and I believe all the Alta parts make more power.

You have some MPG numbers to compare??

your equation is missing something:
(more air + more fuel) multiplied by (Effenciency) = HP

Efficiency is everything.

why is the r56 engine producing more power and getting better gas mileage than the r53 engine? It's more efficient.

The intake and exhaust makes the engine more efficient. You can now maintain the same cruise speed as before but get better gas mileage. You want to get up and go faster? Your foot controls that. When you press the pedal down far enough to have more power than you had stock - then of course you'll use more gas. You do not give it that much gas for very long on public roads anyway.

On my transit home, which is predominately flat, I run between 70-75 on the freeway with the cruise on (on about 3k RPMs) and the computed MPG bounces between 36-39MPG.

I don't have MPG numbers for a MINI, but my last vehicle was a diesel truck that did exactly what you are saying is not possible. I added a piggyback module that advanced the injection timing and increased the volume of fuel. My average mpg went from 21 to 23, even with me enjoying the extra power. That's no small feat for a vehicle that weighed 6600 pounds dry. The advantage in that case was due to the engine spending less time in its less efficient acceleration state. Since it spent less time getting to speed, and more time in its efficient cruising state, more MPG.

From my frequent cruises in "Howard" I can say that if you can stay off the go pedal (but it does sound so good!) the MPG will for 100% increase. That car had the entire ALTA catalog on it, including the ECU. I routinely got 37-38 MPG on the freeway modded, vs. 34-35 stock.

Just my results, yours may vary!

Let me know if I can answer any other questions or concerns.

I had a Golf GTi that I added a cat-back, CAI, chip and along with a much freer revving engine, when I drove it relatively normally my mpg improved.

That's interesting, I've never been able to rise above 32 stock. After a long drive at mostly 75 the whole trip (+/- 12 hours) with CC on most of the time it hovers around 31 - 32. I've never seen it creep higher than that.

That sounds about right, my MPG increased by about 2-3 MPG after all of my Alta modifications (including the ECU). However, it is much more tempting to step on it more and that does tend to negate the previous stated benefit.

For the first 15,000 miles my average MPG was right at 32. At that point I added wider tires and wheels, and lowered the car by about 1.4 inches. I am now getting about 28.4 MPG on average.

I plan to add a turbo-back exhaust, and possibly a FMIC after the autoX season ends. I plan to wait so that I can remain in STX for the balance of the season.

I started out getting 31 MPG average and now with 10K miles, and the Alta CAI, Turboback, Turbo Inlet, and Boost Tubes I'm getting 36 MPG average.
