I was not suggesting the upper ring lands had broken necessitating new pistons/rings. I was asking about the manner in which the engine had been "broken in". There are some who believe that using a lead foot during break in serves to seat the rings very well and makes for a stronger engine. Hence my inquiry.

Our engines come with synthetic lube so getting the rings to seat may be more difficult due to the higher lubricity inherent in synthetic lube. Higher cylinder pressures (lead foot) may serve to seat the rings better. The only parts which really wear in are rings/cylinder. Everything else rides on a cushion of oil and really should not wear in.

Just curious whether gnatster was a lead foot during break in.

Hey Gnaster what is the impression on track now have you seen any et improvements? Have you had to re-learn how to drive the car?

Paul and others..

I had issues at the last track day.

The car would not idle well and often cut out often times running on 3 cylinders. From the various codes this was identified as a bad map sensor and has been fixed. However the sometimes on 3 cyl was not fixed and a tear down has found the rings in #1 have lined up. This would explain the Cyl 1 Rich codes. As much as I'd love to slip in a new set of pistons time is not on my side. I need to car back to head to MOTD so it's being fixed with OEM parts.

I was able to get some times and they were about 2 seconds quicker then my previous at this track.

These minor engine issues have caused me to miss two weekends on track. I don't think I have anything setup until Memorial Day Weekend, when there is a 3 day event.
