DDM Works Street Intake Review

Iv'e had my car for less than a month but I figure why not start modding. First was a Scanguage 2, then I decided I wanted something more performance oriented. I started looking at different intake's, and after reading about several of them and seeing videos and hearing what they sounded like I figured it would be kind of cool to be able to hear the turbo spooling up and the bypass valve noise.

These were my options:
(Prices are close but not exact)

Alta CAI $290
M7 $630
DDM Works Race $450
DDM Works Street $190
Gruppe M ...Way too much to even consider
DIY Would have cost less than $100

Seeing as how Ram Air has no real benefit on our cars, I ruled out the M7, and the DDM Works Race Intake, that left 3 options. I live in Germany and didnt really want to order all the stuff I'd need to make an Intake myself, and I was looking for something more professional looking. That left me choosing between the DDM Street and the Alta. Seeing as how performance is in reality pretty negligible between the two (they essentially use the same filter and elbow) I thought to myself why pay 100 dollars more for the same thing.

I placed my order and even though I have an APO address, I recieved the Intake in less than a week. I was pretty happy that DDM Works had no problem shipping to an APO, Iv'e had problems in the past where vendors would refuse to ship to me.

The packaging was excellent, everything was bubble wrapped and in perfect condition when I received it. The fitment was awesome as well, it went together in about ten minutes. There were even extra washers and screws provided.

Now on to the good stuff. I made measurements of the air temperature difference between the stock intake and outside air, and found IAT to usually be about 15*F higher than ambient regardless of whether I was sitting still or driving. With the DDM Street, I'm seeing temperatures varying between 5*F above ambient while moving and 20*F above ambient while sitting still. I have the Intake scoop partially open and it is obvious the air is cooler while moving. What really made the intake cool to me though was the sound. I can now hear the turbo spool up under heavy throttle and the bypass valve when I let off. I definately get a lot more looks from passers by now. Its quiet when I want it to be and loud when I step on it. As far as performance, I can't really tell a difference. I think I'd be hard pressed to notice the difference a few horsepower makes.

I couldnt be happier.

PS... I will post pictures soon, the weather is kind of crappy and I really dont wan't to stand in the cold and take pictures. If you want to see what it looks like just go to the DDM website

Here now is my experience with DDM for the same product.
I live in Greece so as you can imagine I have an EU Mini.
The difference is that I have not a maf sensor to the intake hose that leads to the turbine.
I told them that in the order, and they send me the kit with a K&N filter and without having in mind the fact that I am not able to use it, because it is not possible to connect the silicone 90o elbow with the intake hose (plastic with silicone) without an intermediate connector.
So, in my next order because I wanted it with the Unifilter, something that I forgot to mention in my first order, they promised that they will send me an intermediate part in order to connect these two.
I received the filter but still with no part inside, so until now I am not able to do it.
I do not have any impression about the product, since until now I am just not able to use it.
But for the customer service, I can surely tell that is the worst ever.

Hmmm

Sounds like you needed a Custom part and not really the one DDMWorks sells. Call Dave and explain it to him or follow up with an email concerning the intermediate part you need. I know Dave and he is the best and nicest Mini man I know. Since Dave can construct almost anything, I'm sure he will help you out. After all his main job is design not sales.

I will speak to Dave and find out the rest of the story

PS: Never bash a vendor when you want something different or extra than what he sells.

and how do you happen to know what I talked with Dave before I initially placed the order?
Have you seen the order slip?
Because we discussed about the issue twice before I place the order and he knew that he should send different parts because of an EU mini.
The status right now is that he is sending a mounting part in order to resolve the issue, along with some appologies regarding the fact that in two orders (fist the kit and then the Unifilter), he didn't include the mounting part...

So, please, don't be so hasty to have an opinion because the facts are not with you, and by the way, since the fact that I am a customer with proofs, and not somebody that tell something that somebody else told me, I can bash the vendor that I have ordered something and paid for it already, and I have the kit in my hands for at least a month without being able to use it...

From: Orlando, my house is in fortlauderdale and im originally from da bronx
Tecanis!Heck I dont know, but when i have issues with a vendor i try to resolve it with them before bashing them on a forum. If you rnot happy with the service then leave it at that. If they ripped you off then tell the world. However it seams like they tried to work something with you and their shipping or who ever did not address it. What ever it is , if they are not out to screw you over then work with them.

Now I am in Poland, and they informed me from Athens that I received a box....
Hopefully it is the adaptor.
On Thuesday I will fit all the parts together, and hopefully again everything will be ok, because I was waiting for this kit long time...

And by the way, a forum is a place of discussions...
I have the right to inform everybody with my experience from the first moment of the order until the last one.
Not after a while, or not under specific circumstances...
Because when we are happy with a vendor, we report it immediately.
Not that I am not, why not report it immediately?
but of course I am also obliged to report also every step or progress, as I did...

And it is not that they worked out something for me, they did it (or should have) for all EU minis...
Or else just mention that their product is not available for the EU market, clear, acceptable and honest...

Finally I came back and I put the part all together...
Impressions:
1) The sound is absolutely PERFECT. I cannot stop preshing the throttle in order to listen to the OEM BOV and the turbo sucking air.
2) Appearance is extremely nice. All together, all in place, just beautiful.
3) Installation. Took me about 8-10 minutes...so....perfect
4) Performance. I am extremely happy with what I noticed. Clear difference especially in the mid rpms, surely you can notice the results.

I have to say the the only complain that I had was about the unifilter.
It came so oiled that it was really leaking from the packaging. I had to wash it twice in order to bring it to normal, or else this whole oil would be directly to the turbo.

Looks like you share my same thoughts about it!
