Questions before I start changing my MCS

My question is about setting off check engine lights (CEL) after moding the car. My previous car was a 2006 honda civic EX, which I put on a CAI and exhaust and it got to the point where if you would look at the car wrong it would set off the CEL. Will my MCS be the same way?

I know right now I want to put on a CAI and a 15% pulley on the charger and later maybe go with exhaust and manifold. Do I run the risk of setting off the CEL by doing these mods on my MCS? Also are there certain add ons that I should stay away from so I dont set off the CEL?

Any input would be helpful.

Thanks

From my experience, the only one of those mods that may set off a CEL is the exhaust manifold (header) and only as it relates to the CAT. I have a 200 cel high flow cat on mine and have a CEL. There are other manifolds/cats out there that you can install that wont give you a CEL.

easiest thing to do is look and see what the factory did with the JCW package...
Pulley,
teflon coated SC (already from the factory that way on newer R53s)
ported-polished head
CAI
exhaust.

As long as you play after the cat on the exhasut, you won't throw a CEL...

All suggestions so far spot on--but you never know what that crazy little computer in the Mini will do. I've set it off many times, and eventually bought a code reader/reseter. Worth the expense in the long run especially if you don't have a good relationship with a close by dealer.
Good luck.

Def a good suggestion. Thanks for all the help. Just to follow up on what someone said earlier...what year did they change to the teflon coated SC? I have a 2004, do you that has one.

Ive been reading as much as I can on the minis and this site has been a HUGE help.

Thanks to all

I've got JCW head/supercharger/pulley/exhaust set up and threw a lean code on cyl 2 once.

Hasn't happened again and I have the ScanGauge II. This was one of the best "mods" I think since it has saved me going to the dealer to find out what CEL was on for.

Does that apply to 2006 models as well?

Yes, except for the pulley size of the JCW the '05 & '06 models (and '07/'08 convertibles) have the same charger as the JCW.

Don't know, I don't have the pleasure of owning one. If it comes w/out a cat I would imagine so. I'm not sure, however, if you can tune the car to not throw that specific code. It's worth asking if you are planning to go that route.

Sorry but the 2004 MINI S did not include the Teflon coatings on the supercharger.
