How to Achieve 350 Hp at the wheels

I am looking to enter the mini world. I want to mod the mini alot. I would like to attain 350 at the wheels. what is the best way to do this, Build the motor, twin charge, turbo alone and ditch the supercharger, or a combination. All links to purchase these products that you recommend would be appreciated. Thanks alot.

This would be a good place to start your search: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...lutionmini.com

Click on the link.
Jan is the man's name. He is developing heads, exhaust systems, a different SC, and also a 2.0 stroker motor.

Why?

Track Car?

Drag Racer?

You need to breathe in the slightly acrid scent of burning tires?

Whats your goal, or is it just I want 350whp but I have no idea what to do with it.

It can be done, the route depends on your ultimate goals. Don't forget other subsystems such as brakes and suspension will need to warmed over as well.

You do realize that 350whp is worthless unless you have tires & a drivetrain to put it to the ground....

You planning on running 255mm+ up front...somehow?

With that kind of power in one of our cars, I found the axles and brakes you would need:

Pick up a copy of the latest MC2 magazine. Cover shot shows a 600 hp MINI. Two words: jet engine

There are quite a few +350whp MINIs. The majority are turbo only and you are looking at close to 10,000 for the conversion. Fireballed racing has been the main place for the turbo conversions, but I know that there has been a shake up in their organization. Revolution MINI Works would be the place to check with. Jan can answer all the questions you have and send you in the right direction.

Somewhere north of ~290wHP it gets frustrating to put the power down in anything less than 5th gear. After having an over 300wHP MINI, somewhere around 250wHP and 230wLb/Ft is a good place to be. You can still destroy the tires in the first two gears, but you can actually put it to the ground on the track.

Getting to the 230-250 range is becoming easier and easier thanks to tuning. There are several cars on here with 300+. Just got to choose your path and dont listen to the stupid comments people make.

Actually a lot of people run the stock 05-06 transmission and LSD, for example brians widow which is a 513H.P daily driver...

I think that the big argument here is between people with a "big HP" goal (ignoring all other factors) and people who are tuning their cars to achieve a specific goal (very fast Auto-x or track car). It all depends on your goal and any clearly stated goal can be accomplished.

MINIs are a different breed of car, to me, than most other vehicles that I've been involved with. Before my MINI, it was a HP=performance equation so more HP = more performance. The MINI changed me into a "my goal is to balance the complete package" kind of guy... Style, handling, braking, dependability and power.

I don't want to put words into Gnatster's mouth, but I think that he is asking you to specify your goals and end use (drag car, street racer, canyon carver, DE track car, race car, rally car, etc) before you start chasing down the high power mods as a 350+ HP engine might be counter-productive to your end goal (if, for example, you were building an Auto-x car).

Can you build it? Yes.
Has it been done before? Sure.
Does it take cash? You bet!
Is it driveable? If you put the package together carefully... yes, depending on your definition of driveable and your driving skills.
Does it suit your needs? We don't know, but would love to discuss it!

FYI: If you want to chase a build immediately, keep your eyes on the first Generation of MINIs... the '06 models and earlier. The ECU for the second generation MINI hasn't been cracked yet (as far as I know) and strapping on the typical big HP mods causes massive computer confusion and poor performance (search "Fireball Tim Street Tuner Challenge" for an example).

What is a "cluth tree?"

Not sure what you're saying, but I didn't say that it wouldn't be driveable...anything is driveable, it just takes some finesse and rethinking. But like I said...not my cup of tea. A more balanced package, as elaborated upon by agranger, is more my style. Personally I've always found pushing big numbers in a FWD car to be a little silly. To each their own.

A new STI with a tune would probably get you very close, and you could actually put the power down through all four wheels. Granted, the car is a giant, revolting pig.

That being said, I would start by ignoring all those who say not to do it if your reasoning is simply that you want to do it. The primary reason many MINI owners don't have 350hp MINIs is because it is prohibitively expensive to get the car there; the litany of excuses that you'll read here are a distant second to that except perhaps for those who are trying to build more balanced cars for the track.
