19% pulley gives 20psi!?

I was reading the classifieds and i came by a mini for sale. The guy said he is pushing 20psi with the 19% pulley. Is that normal or even possible? I did a search here but nothing really answered my question.

Believeable, but also understand that pressure includes both mass air and heat in the equation. After awhile, each extra PSI is due near entirely from excess heat and not more air.

Air = power, and heat just retards timing advance. Not a good thing.

How well do you think it'll work for me since i'm running the water/meth kit?

Well I would say judging by your list of mods in your sig, you'll be running lean near redline regardless (unless you have/plan on getting injectors). Other than that, I'm not too keen on estimating for other people...hate to have "yer rong!" moments after the fact.

The water/meth injection does help quite a bit though.

What other mods are done to it?

Grillhands what water/methanol injection kit are you running? Is your kit progressive or just an on/off? Thanks!

The most I ever saw with my 19% was 19psig, but keep in mind it was a basically stock engine [read: restrictive] and made very little power considering the boost level.

I thought that too.How much restriction could there be to produce 20psi?

Its a cooling mist 1.5 gal trunk mount. It turns on at 10psi and stays on until it hit under 10psi.

Ok thanks Grillhands, but when does it turn off? I guess you just set the off point for a higher boost than the car will ever achieve.

It's pretty much as soon as you let off the gas it'll turn off.

I have 15% and my boost gauge reads 1.1Bar which converts to 15.95 psi. And before I install my 15% it reads around 10psi. I wonder if it reads normal?

When its cold out I'll hit 19 or even 20 psi with the 19% (at 20psi you're likely to get the P0108 high manifold pressure CEL, but at 19psi it'll just pop the traction control light). The outside temp is the main factor, though. At ~80F, I'll only see maybe 17psi, but at 20F, 19psi or even 20psi is possible.

Does the p0108 put the ecu in limp mode or does it still drive the same?

The few times I've gotten the p0108 CEL it has not gone into limp mode. Drives the same but with an annoying yellow light from the dash. I don't think you want to be hitting 20psi all the time ...

I hit the 20-22 psi all the time. i get the CEL light right around 6.4k and can rev to 7.2 before limiter. This is with mods listed below. With just the 19% pully the Cel would come on at 7k.

Did you ever get the car dynoed to see how much power you are making and where you a/f is?

I get a cel around 6,700 rpm....What psi does it come on at signaling overboost? 17 psi correct?

Jack
