What can we use to clean this, or should we just return them instead of risking damage to the harness?
Methanol seems to work really well. Hard to damage the unit by doing that. Also, scraping the big pins a bit with an exacto may also help.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Kind of a milky, yellowy stuff. It appears likely that you do have it. Try a bit of methanol, or alcohol on it to clean it. Won't damage the harness. Certainly better to try first, then install.

Thanks again!

Hi Adam
So the electronics cleaner didn't do squat. So I tried the MEK and that did the trick, I think. No CEL, however i do have a warning triangle on the tach dash. That could be from the freeze warning though, i need to hook up to OBDII to confirm. Tomorrow Jen will run it to work, and we will see. As for tonights butt dyno run....WOW that was worth the wait.

Next step is to go to MAC Auto Sports and get it dyno'd. Unfortunately, i don't have a stock Dyno run, but oh well. I dont race it,and neither does the wife, so I really only care about the end output, and then only just to know.

MEK

For those that are wondering, MEK is available at HomeDepot it was around $7 (might be around $13) i think. Blue and red can, look in the paint thinner section.

Sorry for the delay!
If you are in any need of a bone stock R56S for testing...give me a shout out, I live in the Portland area and I'm SERIOUSLY considering the ecu as my first performance mod to the car, so natuarally I'm curious about results.

Updates will go in my first post as they arrive. Today I added a few Q's and A's. February is the next batch of harnesses to arrive.

All will include some form of improvements. We appreciate all the feedback.

Okay, this is getting way too tempting so now I just have to pose the question:

As you guys know, I'm planning to get the ALTA turbo back exhaust installed next weekend. However, that plan was made before the ECU became available for the auto trans. I can't do the TBE and ECU right now as I'm getting new wheels/tires put on this weekend, so my budget (college student) is already hell of stretched as it is... So which option would you pick?

1. ALTA cat-back exhaust and ECU

2. ALTA turbo-back exhaust

It seems option 1 would give more power and I could always add the downpipe later, but I'm unsure.

Thanks

# 1 is what I have done to mine. Plenty of power, sounds great and, like you, I can always add the downpipe later

(Probably this spring... )

Do #2. Then later on get the PnP ECU from ALTA. The sound is better and then the HP gain later down the road will be above what it is with #1 choice.

Just my two cents!

I would go with #2. Both will give you noticeable gains, however when your ready for the Unichip they might have a Flux package and Alta will include all the programming for your supported mods at time of Unichip purchase, which will also make the unichip costs cheaper because you wont have to pay for repeat flash updates....you know your going to mod it more,....we know your going to mod it more....so while the individual updates would be cheap in comparison, after a couple the cost will really add up.

Also the turbo down pipe is a PITA to install. Not because of the Alta design, but because of the Mini heat shields. So if your going to have someone there anyways, and they can install that pipe for the same cost, then you would save same more money that way ( as opposed to going back and having then install that later). The unichip is real easy to install, less than 20 min even if you follow the directions exactly and actually run the harness into the cab.

I'd go w/ option 2 -- I ran the TBE for a long time with very good results (just under 200whp).

Well for better or worse, looks like the decision has been made for me - no one has any downpipes! Call to ALTA says the next batch won't be shipping out until the first week in March.

So more than likely I'll be purchasing the PnP ECU soon.

Picked up the catback from JSC Speed today and will be getting it installed tomorrow over at CBRD. Unrelated, but I also picked up a set of Eibach springs and will be getting those installed ASAP.

M, looks like you have a plan, pictures of the R56 when you get the Eibach springs installed and the Alta cat-back.

What is the drop with the Eibach? Are you doing a shock change too?

Give me a break. This is a self serving thread by a vendor selling a product where most of the buyers send it back, can't get it to work or obviously are so happy that they can't be believed. Meanwhile the only guy who can fix it is on vacation in Hawaii. How much does it cost and are you willing to warranty extending to engine damage?
