Installed Alta intake. Now have a ? about it.

I bought an Alta 2.0 intake from a member on here. I got it fast and was happy with the packing.. Anyways.. I put it on and I really like it but it has such a strange different sound than any other intake I have had. All my other cars/trucks have had the K&N filter cones and they all sounded throaty and loud. A cool sound.. But this intake makes the supercharger wine sound very noticeable. I dont mind at all. The colder intake and air flow is worth it. Just wondering if all the open air kits have that sound when you have a supercharger.

Yeah, on a supercharged engine, the supercharger is the loudest component of the intake tract. Opening up the flow with a CAI increases the amount of the whine that gets out. Intakes like the Alta are also louder because they draw their air from the driver side cowl instead of the front of the bonnet like the stock one.

I dont mind the sound.. I was just supprised when I went to go test drive the car with the new intake on. I was expecting a throaty intake like I have had on my truck and other cars and all I got was a supercharger whine.

I thought my K&N intake sounded nice and loud when I had it on, but when I switched to the Alta....

Yes the supercharger whine is beautiful on an AGS equiped car i have personally never heard an alta but i have seen videos and it sounds nice aswell but when it comes to the sound no intake can beat the AGS.....

K & N on my BMW was throaty.

Conical intake on MCS was marginally louder than stock

Switched to Alta (and cut out the rear partition) and was just thrilled with the loud, screaming banshee sound (not too mention, I love the initial little woosh sound it makes, like it's taking in a big gulp of air). I still need to add an aftermarket intake hose (I've heard this helps a bit too).

I'm a fan of the tip-in and tip-out noises with a good intake on the MCS. When accelerating hard through the gears, you can hear the throttle plate close and open every time you get off the gas to shift. And then then there's the whine

Last night I got tot drive up to Ramona (small town int he mountains in San Diego) and I really got to get on the car and test out the intake. What a big difference. It seems to pick up faster and the sound was so cool. This car amazes me. I cant wait to get exhaust and some other goodies.

does anyone have any audio files comparing CAIs?
I have a JCW in the box still, and am waffling between it and the Alta. I would love to hear the sound differences (JCW flapected, vs Alta) someone has to have these no?

The hill climb on the 67 just past Santee is a gas! Do you know Highland Valley road to Ramona? It is a back door entry to Ramona and a fantastic twisty drive, a lot of first and second gear technical twisties. If your into cheap mods for cheap thrill noise bolt on the $69 Forge BOV. 30 minute install, fun phssshht noise when shifting gears on hard acceleration. No perceivable performance gain but cheap and easy!
edit
sorry, BOV is for turbos! Ooops!

I'd like to know if anyone has had both a JCW and Alta and what they thought. I'm on the fence, too.

Does anyone have a feeling of which CAI is quietest? I want the performance gains but with minimal increase in sound.
