Does short shifter add more cabin noise?

About 4 months ago I added a Helix short shift kit. I love it and the way it feels but I did notice two things. One there is more heat coming off the floor of the car and two there seems to be A LOT more road noise. I know the stock plastic plate couldn't be reused and that was the cause of the heat problem but what about the added noise? At first I thought it was my coilovers but I have had two different brands, then I thought it was the tires but I have had three different brands. The only thing left is the S.S. kit.
What do you guys think?
Merry Christmas
Mari

I have not experienced either one of those problems with my install. I suppose that if the heat shield is in contact somewhere it may cause some noise. After deforming the heat shield (to clear the extended reach of the shifter) I used an old leather belt between the exhaust and the shield. I worked the belt back and forth to be sure I had clearance all around.
So far all smiles.

The noise may be present since the cover is not there. I too had the same heat issue. It was fixed by fabricating a cover. I can't tell you if that reduced the interior noise level since mine is already so loud I'd never notice.

Merry Christmas everyone.
I have Craven's as well but haven't noticed any heat or extra noise, but then I don't drive anywhere near the miles you do MarioKart.

With Helix's I had the heat seep -- but no added cabin noise (though I drove with the top down 95% of the time so it would've been hard to tell)

No noise to speak of, then again I drive 22k miles a year, and at least 20k of them are with my windows down, so road noise isn't really a primary concern. My downtubes and shift boot do get warm, but I've gotten used to it. I had to make a hole in the actual metal heat shield in order to clearance the shifter from the cat (which sits right below the shift box).

If the boot stays in place along with the OEM heat shield (not cover plate) is installed, there is little if any change in heat. Recent dyno testing on my GP I pulled up the OEM boot and compared the temps in there, vs. in the 02 ALTA test mule with the ALTA shifter. No difference I could feel.

Let me know though If I can answer any questions or concerns.

Thanks again!

I have an Alta, without the OEM cover, but the heat shield in place and a Tiburon shift boot. More heat and more noise. But like others, I have a header and loud exhaust, so the noise is only noticeable in winter when the ambient dips below 40F and I drive with the window up. The heat is certainly tolerable, and you should never drive with your hand resting on the shifter anyway--both hands on the wheel at all times...
So no problema!

My B&M will make a little bit of rattle noise now and then when I get on it. As far as heat difference = none. Shifts great!
