Have you checked the posts for HAI (K&N stuck directly onto the throttle body)...no doubt the least expensive and if I remember right it retained more boost and had higher peak boost than any of the CAI out there.

Intakes usually don't give that much hp. Sure once you install it, you will feel a difference, but the best part of an intake is the supercharger whine you get. If you do a search theres been posts of people comparing different intakes with one another. Maybe that will help you on your selection.

I agree. Most intakes will give you 5-7hp. It's not really noticeable. The K&N Typhoon isn't one of the best one's due to the metal hose. You want a hose made of an insulating material. Webb, Alta, DDM...take your pick. The HAI (filter directly on throttle body) is a way of getting as much power as the best intake systems for a fraction of the cost.

As stated before, supercharger whine is the biggest gain after installing an intake. It's amazing.

3-5 is a little more likely.

Aside from that, this topic has been covered to death. Best bet is a forum search.

OP: If you have ANY questions about the ALTA intakes, please let me know. If you want real world dyno results you can always visit our website.

www.altaminiperformance.com

On any of the products click on Charts for dyno results.

Our intake makes 7 WHp with just the intake and another 4-5 WHP for the inlet tube or 11-12 when bought as a set.

Thanks for the interest! Let me know if I can help!

If anyone ends up making a repeatable, demonstrable, 11-12WHP w/ an intake on a STOCK COOPER S, please let me know.

It would mean that you have happened upon a cosmic irregularity, that your car is completely different than everyone else's car, quite possibly blessed by Jesus himself.

Not that I believe in that anyway.

Thanks Matt!

well thanks for the skepticism.

Seriously, I understand if you have seen conflicting information, but we have seen very similar and VERY repeatable results the world round on this product. We have dyno charts on our website from OUTSIDE of ALTA's internal dyno. And more by request. Just let jeff.perrin@altaminiperformance.com know your concerns and he can send em along!

Thanks again! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Not sure if that was sarcasm there (and sorry if my original post seemed the same way), but here goes...

I am just trying to voice honest skepticism about that number. A Cooper S w/ 15% pulley and intake will bring most cars to around ~186WHP. If what you are saying is true, the intake alone is responsible for half of the gains, evidently equivalent from a boost pressure change from ~10.5 to ~15 PSI peak. This I cannot imagine to be true. Even Dinan only claims 179BHP* w/ their intake, and that's with software! Considering the design is not so much fundamentally different from brand to brand, I can't imagine a hose difference, the box dimensions, the box materials, etc are responsible for that. To boot, plastic is actually less thermally conductive than metal.

Not trying to start a squabble, just trying to be honest - honest in my opinion, in what I would tell someone if they asked me straight up.

*EDIT* And hey, I could very well be wrong. I'll be forthright again...in trying to confirm my current beliefs (gotta love confirmation bias) I did come across a distinct lack of "intake-only" dyno graphs. I could only find quotes here and there echoing my above sentiments (but definitely nothing marking such significant gains). So I could very well be completely wrong. I'll stand corrected if I can see a little more data or a little more word-of-mouth from various tuners justifying those numbers.

NO SARCASM implied. We appreciate opposing points of view and concern for real numbers. Without them, you would have TONS of vendors saying all kinds of HUGE gains and nothing to back them up but flim flam. (wait does that happen here already? Just poking!)

In all seriousness you may have pointed out we need to post these numbers again in a more public fashion. Will do ASAP! I will get Jeff on it!

Thank you again! Chat soon!

the PROMINI cai sounds freakin amazing
you can really hear ur throttle open up in the middle of a gear and the whine sounds like it doubles
plus the car feels perkier with a nice lil boost :girn:

I would recommend JCW CAI. Or you can add extra $ and get the JCW upgrade kit I have. I like it so much.

To get the best out of the JCW CAI, it has to be programmed into the ECU. The JCW one has an additional throttle the openes on 4500RPM. And the ECU does that by a cable between the CAI and the ECU.

I thought the flap was triggered by the engine vacuum.

nope, there's a harness cable from the CAI and going directly to the ECU. Do you want the installation instructions on a PDF file for more information?

This statement needs some clarification ...

The JCW airbox requires NO programming of the ECU. The control unit that comes with the airbox is connected to the ECU via a cable and monitors engine RPM, opening the flap at 4500 RPM. The ECU remap that comes with the JCW Upgrade Kit is strictly for the larger injectors included in the kit.
