not trying to be a jerk here... but i know you are some what younger then most mini owners, and it would be just like bmw to count that against you. I'd be very careful how you word this with your dealership to have it covered under warranty. Again, I'm not saying you are at fault but bmw isn't very nice when it comes to this kind of warranty work. Just make sure you plan out what you are going to say and how you say it.

good luck.

if you have to replace it i would try and find an 05 or 06 with lsd. Word on the street is your cruise control will no longer work, and you may need to swap a few other little parts here and there, but the swap shouldn't be much different then an 02-04 gear box.

My guess is that they are going to pin you with abusive driving on the gear box so it won't be covered by warranty. In that case you'll have to eat the costs yourself. If you get lucky they will cover it (in my opinion they should cover it abusive driving or not as your car is under 50k) and you'll get a new one no questions asked and no problems.

One thing i can tell you is, if you have to replace it at your own expense don't pay stealership prices, instead lug your car to way or waymotorworks.com or dan at grassrootsgarage.

sorry i can't help any more then this. :(

My nephew, who is 18, had a similar problem in his '05 just a few months after he bought it (used), the dealer replaced the trans no questions asked.

I think you need to just go in and say the minimum, "the trans isn't working right, could they investigate it and advise you," then go from there.

I had a squeal form my LSD they replace the LSD and trans no questions asked, only the balkedon the install and I've had minor issues with it ever since, just biding my time until I can justify the cost to replace and upgrade the items myself. The also swapped the clutch/flywheel assemblyatthe same time, that took about 6 months and being on the list for a dozen visits before they agreed to do it though.

I do BMW/MINI parts and regular list price on that trans is $3725.00 plus $200 core.

I have one here that's still in the crate, but it's not for sale, sorry. It was ordered for a customer that decided to trade the car in. It will be going in my car soon.

Do Jan's tune and get more horsepower--I've got around 226hp or 202hp at the wheels--about 20hp more just by the tune alone--I've got same as you--pulley, intake, exhaust--but an '05 MCS. Next boost in power will be a performance head..but that won't be for awhile.

But since you need to fix your tranny first, look for a salvage vehicle. My friend had a blown tranny on an '05 and she found an '05 that had burnt on the shipping truck--so had no miles on the tranny and it was fully intact after the fire--she got it for less than $2K--don't remember exactly how much. She ended up repairing her own tranny by cracking it open and replacing the broken parts.

she managed to find internal tranny parts? or she used the parts from the burned Mini's tranny and put it into her existing tranny?

Sorry that I wasn't clear. I said she bought a second tranny to replace the broken one but instead ended up fixing the broken one using the parts from the new one.

if you are keeping it then it might be worth giving the warrenty guys a nice bottle of wine. little gifts like that allways make it easier for them to sort stuff out.

alternatively get talking to one of the parts guys and see if he can get it pushed through.

these are all things my mates have done or had done to them as they work in the trade.

hope it works out

Chris.
