Drivetrain ALTA's GT2560R Turbo Kit... breaking 220WHP!
Jeff,
What about the "hard" tube between the IC and the throttle body? I am not the only one to notice the restrictions in this tube, due to the dimples for wrench clearances, etc. Looks to me there could be some gains there. And what is that electronic doo-hickey just before it meets the boost tube that connects to the throttle body? Also, I deleted the "sound generator" completely (it wouldn't stay connected at the firewall) by machining a plug for that port in the boost tube. Looks like a small gain could be had by making a boost tube without the "sound generator" port, or better yet, a machined plug that, when installed in the boost tube, has the same contour as the ID of the tube. That way, wouldn't have to design a new tube, and the flow would be more smooth. Right now, there should be some turbulence at that transition. Lastly, any news on shipping red intake tubes? Patiently waiting on mine!

Alta I personally hate you guys, you know how hard it is to keep your car stock to 50000 miles when you guys are coming up with such cool things. Personally I would love to have this kit, but I am ashamed to say it must stay stock. Nice work Alta
Haha, hardcore warranty guy. I applaud your patience, and may many mods be ahead of your 50,000 celebration!

The cold side lower hose is something we can do, but because of space, and clearance of things, i don't think its the best idea. I think there would b e lots of rubbing, and to make it bigger and not hit on things would be tuff.
Personally, i am a "warranty...Shmorranty!" kind of person. BUt i understand your concerns. IF something went wrong with a turbo kit installed, then yes, no more warranty.
yep, quite a bit more HP than that. Also keep in mind top HP is only one of the numbmers. Also look at the torque band. HP sells cars.. Torque wins races.. High HP is just a function of torque at high RPM.
ALTA comes out with brand new mods relatively often, so don't think what you see offered now is the end for the MINI!
Good point!
ALTA, or anyone else, could a larger cold side be fitted into this turbo Chassis?? just thinking it could make a nice 'Race' version. i have heard that on some Garretts you can put much larger compresor and turbine wheels into housings with some machine work.
thanks Chris.
thanks Chris.
We have 2 bigger turbos that could be installed, but remember, its a trade off for low end power. The turbo we have installed, isn't maxed out, and i think it can hit 300. This is with minimal lag. As much as the graphs show a huge loss in low end power, you don't even notice it when driving the car. It actually feels faster in all aspects even with a little low end power gone.
When will these be on cars?? Early next year is the plan. I think we have tested it enough and we feel its ready to start building!

Has anyone an estimate of how much HP we can run before quickly breaking parts? I'm thinking anything after 300whp will realllllly shorten the life of parts if driven hard daily..?
Also, I can't wait for this turbo kit.. If it's impressive and numbers are right (1/4 mile estimates?) I'm 100% getting the turbo you can count on it!

1200 miles, yep my warranty is up, what all is included? what is the rolled up cost, figure kit plus any needed extras... gauges, etc.
