5th gear 80mph to 124mph probs

on the freeway doing about 80ish mph when i noticed a c6 corvette drafting me so i tried taking off, was in 6th and dropped it to 5th gear and tried topull away and pretty much did nothing. He walked away from like nothing and i noticed pretty crappy power band soon as i hit 100mph. Car feels awesome from a digg to around 75mph but after that it feels like a dog. normal???

Yeah, being unable to further endanger other people by a slight lack of acceleration well beyond any posted speed limits is normal.

That kind of **** is the reason my insurance is so high. People like you doing that inevitably end up twitching up and slamming someone. Here's a tactic I like to use: move to the slow lane. Seems to work great for me. Oh how I pine for German driver's ed here.

As a calmer aside, realize you are driving a 2600 lb car w/ ~210bhp and >.4 drag coefficient, attempting to pull away from a car weighing about the same, with nearly double the horsepower and ~.3 drag coefficient. Seems obvious to me.

c6 corvette drafting me...
On a track, right? Now that that's out of the way.. Has there been a change recently? Have you done anything to it recently? Did it used to pull?

Mine "pulls" (subjective) at higher speeds than 80.. Noises? I have a noise at high speeds thats most likely a belt slipping. Check all hoses to make sure they're secure.

I would expect a C6 Corvette to walk on a lightly modded MCS..

I'm sorry you dont agree with what i do but i'm sure you do a lot of stuff in your life i wouldnt agree about also buddy. I didnt ask if what i did was ethical or for your opinion on me breaking the law but it happens every day. Yea speed kills but so does bad drivers, cigs, alcohol, unhealthy life style, mcdonalds.... ect. but i dont tell you how to live your life so i dont care what you think i should or should not be doing. and maybe your insurance is so high because its jackasses like you who dont pay attention to their surroundings while driving and GET into an accident.

In response to the post, it's a Vette, did you honestly expect to pull on it with an intake, pulley and exhaust? You'd need an twincharge, turbo only, or rotrex kit for that, or nos...

I hate how people get on this high horse and pretend like they've never gone above posted speed limits. On this forum it's stupid to post about races, high speed tests, etc. unless they're at a track or strip. Other forums people don't seem to mind as much but people here are uptight about it and love to pretend like they don't speed every now and again.

Recklessly cutting through traffic and such I don't agree with, but I don't see anything wrong with a quick run to test out the top-end provided other cars aren't in your way...

yea that is the thing, it use to pull pretty nice. i pulled from a 540i when i first got the car. I got a new BCM because the old one went bad and ever since then it feels like it doesnt have the power it use to. Cant figure out how the bcm would effect the power on the car.

and i phrased that wrong, the C6 didnt walk away, it ran away from me. I was ashamed that he flew by me like that even when i got the jump on him. wasnt even a Z06.....

anyways, i didnt expect to beat him AT ALL. I just thought i would be able to hang for a sec or to not get passed like i was throwing the anchor out of the car. and no we werent swerving thru traffic doing high mph's. i switched lanes and got on it so he could stay in the fast lane while we went straight with barley any cars on the freeway.

The stuff you may not agree with in my life doesn't put others lives in danger. I don't care if you didn't ask for my opinion for breaking the law; the law is irrelevant...I care about my life. Cigs, alcohol, unhealthy life style, McDonald's...that affects you and only you. Reckless ******** from people like you endangers me, and that's when I begin to care. So don't act like this is the same as any of that...it isn't. And it's me who should pay attention? I have yet to have a single accident due to me...5 rear enders due to inattentive drivers and no minimum safe distance - probably thought they were great drivers as they were speeding along (glad I had a Wrangler for the high school years). My insurance was high before - corrupt Louisiana insurance commissioners will do that - and has not changed yet.

You go play stupid with your own life. I'll get pissed when it's mine you're putting at stake.

I've sped before; tickets and a general embracement of relaxation have kept it in check. You won't ever see me complaining about those who criticize the times I've sped though...all criticism was rightfully deserved.

your saying those things i listed only effect me and not others???? yes second hand smoke doesnt hurt me...... mcdonalds slowing killing people with the food they eat..... bad eating habits causing high cholesteral, clogged vessels, mycardic infraction........ yes these ONLY effect me and NOT YOU...... You dont live in Ca so dont worry YOUR SAFE. and we get our cars crushed here in Ca for racing, i know the risks of what i am doing. But thanks Dad for reminding me what i am doing is bad. A forum sponsored by companies promoting SPEED and your trying to tell me people put this stuff on FOR TRACK PURPOSE ONLY!!! hah yea in your dreams. Save it and and take it to the bank man because this is pointless.

and yes i know what i did was taboo. but sometimes you just feel like speeding and you cant help it. especially when you got someone egging you on it sure doesnt help being responsible.

We are not all perfect drivers that never break the law, it's that many of us might be getting a bit frustrated by all of the threads that could have provided useful information about a particular topic but get locked down and can go no further because of the details provided (streetracing, reckless driving, blatant speeding)

Also I believe it's in the rules of this forum that you are not supposed to talk about reckless driving or street racing of any kind.

Asking about the pull from 80-120 (possibly referring to a track situation) is one thing, asking how do i chase a corvette on the freeway is another.

By the way I would have gone for 4th not 5th.

And I agree, from going to the friday nightrun what brung dragstrip outside Orlando a while back, you can keep it in 3rd and 4th much longer than most would think and only need 5th for the very top end of the car if you extrapalte out the lesson, I only occasionally hit 5th on the backstech @ Sebring and that was up at the mentioned speeds.

And as for such reckless behavior on the road, well thats your choice I'm sure you know its against the law, and only a matter of time before you get caught or killed, I just hope its the former that teaches you the lesson. However I'm not fond of every @$$hat that I pull up next to at a light trying to get me to race, I simply don't and would appreciate it if you refrain from furthering such stereotypes by not posting about it, and hey it'll keep you from earning strikes longer too

High3nd, you should have down shifted into 4th if you were going 80ish and wanted to be in the strongest part of your powerband; the C6 would still walk you though.

I apologize for the users "bashing" you and explaining what the the hazards of speeding are as if you were a 14 year old moron racing "2 Fast 2 Furious" style down busy city streets. I know that wasn't the case.

Of course, please drive safely. Also, it might be just me, but I find it highly annoying when everyone posts "IBTL", "repost", "+1", etc.

***Edit***
In response to a newer post, I would like to mention that:
Most people that say "honestly" in a statement are usually lying or exaggerating or implying that they usually lie or exaggerate and this time they are trying to be honest (Referring to post #17). I'm kind of surprised you didn't also say IBTL or +1. Jtrem, I honestly don't think you are an idiot. Honestly man.

haha I know I should have gone for 4th but i wasnt exactly sure where the rpms were or the exact speed, but i usually keep the rpms pretty high when i drive so i though 5th would have been sufficent, but in retrospect i think you guys might be right. but still, doesnt explain why the car doesnt have the hard pull it use to have around 5.5k

This is ridiculous. I know people speed once in awhile. However, its super dangerous to travel at that rate of speed. Honestly if you like to race, take it to the track.
Also don't try to race a car that is out of your league. My father is into corvettes and honestly a lightly modded Mini doesn't stand a chance. If it was on a track, it maybe a different story.

yeah needs to be a tighter track, we've got one a little over an hour from my house, Blackhawk Farms, they run it AutoX style but its always interesting to watch the times of our more experiance track regulars, and compare them to the high HP boys.

Yep - there's a guy I autocross with that almost always posts one of the two or three fastest *raw* times of the day, in a 115-hp Miata. There are also a few talented Cooper drivers that are constantly nipping on the heels of even the good 'S' drivers, as far as raw times go.

Well if we're going to go to AutoX then there certainly are Cooper drivers that'll kick Ss and many other higher HP cars butts when it comes to competitive times. And I've even heard it remarked the Cooper is better off in AutoX because it's so much lighter.

05+ they're shorter so accelration is better, but its a higher RPM and lower MPG and more drone on the long high hauls, I wish they left 6th longer.
