Drivetrain 5th gear 80mph to 124mph probs
Assuming equivalently-skilled drivers, the 'S' will generally post better RAW *and* PAX times, and if you're trying to be competitive at a regional/national level, you're MUCH better off with an 'S' in G-Stock than are with a Cooper in H-Stock (although a Cooper DID take 2nd in H-Stock at Nationals this year
For some reason I want the rpm's to be a bit lower when just cruising on the freeway, at 65 it's ~3k which is fairly low but I want ~2k-2.5k I think that would be a nice cruising rpm.
Either that or I forget what gear I'm in and want to get the rpm's down and am trying for 6th.

I spent a few hours last night out on the open road, zipping around in that 100 to 130 mph range. I have to agree -- it's all about the gears. Leaving it in sixth, and yeah, it'll slowly work it's way back up, but dropping to 5th and, better still, 4th, make s abig, big difference. Just holding sixth feels sluggish.
From time to time, I run into someone with the big horses and a heavier foot and, sure, they get up and go so much taster than I can. And that's fine - there's fast, and then there's scary fast. Most days, most stretches of the autobahn, most conditions, I'm happy up to 130+, and on great days maybe 145, but by then I'm asking my R53 to be all that it can be.
And it is comforting knowing, with some degree of certainty, that the other drivers on the road will follow the rules, staying to the right, etc. I can't even imagine what would happen were they to lift / remove speed limits in the States. Smoking and drinking a Big Gulp while pushing 120 just doesn't work.

Not in your wildest dreams...
The Vette could beat a Mini in 6th...I down shifted this Z06 into 4th at around 70 and it launched me into the horizon like I was shot out of a cannon...You'd need Tul's Mini to do this job...
To the OP,
Did you consider that the 'Vette might have been tweaked a bit, too? Just 'cause they come stock with a big stable of ponies tucked under the hood doesn't mean their owners can't add a few extra ones, just like we do. So maybe it wasn't your car.

Based on all the feedback we received on moderation I'm planning to allow the excessive speeding threads to self-moderate. Just like we've seen elsewhere if you post about driving way fast you'll receive the wrath of other members thereby self-moderating the thread. In fact I've been reworking the site guidelines to reflect this (new guidelines haven't relaunched yet):
Regardless everyone has moved on in this thread so no need to lock it or do anything else.
Thanks
Mark
I agree to take it to the track
Take your need for speed to the track. No street racing or high speed bragging unless you want to experience, first hand, the wrath of other community members.

[quote=Motor On;1888164] I only occasionally hit 5th on the backstech @ Sebring and that was up at the mentioned speeds.

MotorOn: you need a better launch off of turn 16! i'm at my 7400 rpm redline halfway down the backstretch. also in 5th at the second walkover bridge on the front straight and before the bridge exiting turn 6. come join us MINI track junkies at Sebring.

It also greatly has to do with the better traction they get (less power/tq )
Check the forum guidelines, no posting of illegal activities related to driving is allowed. That is why all of the ibtl tags.
You really think you should be able to stay with a 'vette........
Okey so here is why the MINI would never stand a chance, (and by the way who honestly cares?)

Wait! Don't turn that page! This may look like the same Corvette that's been overexposed on newsstands over the past 12 months, and it may bear familiar Z06 badging that suggests it's just that same Corvette with 10-15-percent-better performance. But this is actually GM's Dodge Viper slayer, its stealth weapon against Ford's GT supercar.
Can you wrap your mind around the concept of a factory-issued, fully warranted 200-mph Corvette that'll hit 100 mph in the low sevens and run mid- or low 11s in the quarter? Okay, none of those numbers is official yet. The car is still undergoing wind-tunnel testing and final engine tuning. But sources say a prototype with full camo flapping in the high-speed breeze has driven well into the 190s, and our pocket Cray supercomputer says that at 200 mph this Vette would be spinning at or just past its power peak in fifth gear, which seems plausible.

What, they don't count as being potential victims?
Can you explain how being responsible does not help
