M7 Coilovers w/215/40/18 42et SLAMMED!

Right now I'm running 215/40/18x7.5 with a 42 offset. I was wondering if I would be able to have my car lowered about 2" from stock and not have any rubbing issues with the fronts coilovers. I also don't car to run spacers.
Thank you

haha mario i <3 your antics but you're total schizophrenic when it comes to your car. Just yesterday you were talking about getting a softer ride now you're talking about 2 inch drops? The two generally do not go together.

Why not just source some progressive springs for the cross setup?

I know, I know, I drove in a 2" dropped Mini with M7 coilovers the other day and it drove smooth but it had 17" wheels. My concern NOW is not having my 18's rub the out side of the coilover when dropped 2".
Good thing this Mini Sh*t is a hobby.

Mario, I am running M7's with 215/35/18X7.5 I am about 2 inches lowered and have no problems with rubbing.

However, running a 40 with your offset I think you might have some rub how much I'm not sure. Sorry I can't come 100% with an answer for you...

Just FYI I love the coilovers, the ride is actually smoother with my 18's versus my Eibachs and stock struts

Very cool. My offset is 42 but I wondering if the 40's is going to be a problem. Does your front perch sit above or below the top of the tire? Do you have any pix you can post?

I have an interesting thing going on with the front coils that to be honest I've been to lazy to investigate yet. I had Les Schwab install these for me so ya....

Anyway, my passenger side perch sits below the top of my tire and the drivers side sits above. The passenger side is adjusted all the way down while the drivers has plenty of room to drop lower. Not sure whats causing this exactly

Anyway, I just ran out and took some of the worst camera phone pictures in history to illustrate the underside stuffs. I also attached images of how the car sits

I like the way it sits. Thats strange about the coilovers being different heights. I guess the passenger side spring has way more preload on it and to get the car to sit even the installer had to lower by the hub.
Thank you for you time
Mario

Your problem concerns me, Intense. I run M7 COs, not slammed as much as you, but I am still running pretty low. The difference from right to left could be due to a couple of reasons:
1. The shock bodies are not in the housings evenly, therefore you need different coil settings to even them out.
2. One of the shocks is not sitting in the hub carrier properly, even though this is incredibly unlikely since you need to pass the bolt through the notch on the shock body to tighten the hub carrier. However, the difference in the height of the shocks is big enough that the shock might not even be all the way into the hub carrier.
3. How did your alignment guy set up the shocks? Corner balanced? If so, there's some pretty heavy ***** on one side of your car up front.

Or not?

I agree with Dr.Phil....Intense. And I know that your car was just reassemblemed from a pretty bad crash. Did they have to replace the strut tower? Is it shroomed? Those are the only other things I can sugggest. The coilovers shouldnt be that far out. I mean...they wont be set exactly the same but pretty close.

Thanks for offering me up some help fella's

These Coilovers were adjusted like this from the first day I installed them before the crash.

The towers aren't shroomed and I have plates on them.

The car as far as I know was not corner balanced. They are set so the fender gap is the same and off of ground to jack points. Maybe one fender sits lower than the other??

The shock body's are all the way down in the hub carrier from what I can see but I don't know how they're sitting up top.

Like I said I've just been lazy and haven't wanted to tear into it. I planned on doing some work on the car this weekend. I'll take the coils out and try to figure out whats going on.

I figure I might have about a 1/4 inch difference here from side to side. Right now I have about an inch or so. But I agree, something is out of whack.

If they weren't in the housings evenly wouldn't I hear noise or banging?

I'm a noob when it comes to how the suspension goes in and to be honest even being a noob I probably would have done a better job installing them than the tire shop that I had do it....

Live and learn eh?

Hey, Intense, did your car sit ok and even with the stock struts? Still have them? Put them back on to check ride if hight is even. Just trying to cover all options.

Mario, there is such thing as too low. heh heh.

Yes the car did sit even with the stock struts on. I still have them sitting in my garage and I appreciate the idea. I'm hoping that when I pull the Coils out and look at them that something will be noticable.

...at least thats what I'm hoping for

I agree, I would be concerned and have it checked out ASAP.

I'm going to pull things apart tomorrow and see what I can see.

A little history, I had these coilovers installed by a tire shop. They were adjusted like this from that shop.

The car was wrecked and the front suspension was taken off. When the body shop re-installed them they were exactly the same. That means that 2 shops would have installed them wrong??

Anyway, I'm wondering if there is some adjustment on the shock bodies or plates themselves that could be outa whack? I'll know more tomorrow, not sure I have all the tools I need to drop them all the way out but I'll see what I can see

Thanks for the suggestions and help everyone. Thinking that a problem lies lurking is freaking me out. Might have to take the car to a suspension tuner and have it gone thru if I can't figure it out

When you have the shock out, check one thing for certain: that each shock body is threaded into the base holder (this is part of the shock and goes into the hub carrier) the same amount. For example, my shocks are in the holders so that the bottom of the shocks are fllush with the bottom of the holders. This gives a good drop and access to the adjusting ***** from under the hub carriers/steering knuckles at the track.

good luck
