I have been reading about this supercharger, and was just wondering what the MINI community has heard of it. It looks awsome, but I don't know if the technology can be applied to the MINI.

 

Interesting unit. in simple form a Rotrex with a 2 speed transmission to change the gearing as RPM climbs to keep a more constant boost pressure from idle to redline. The Rotrex is being tested now by Revolution Mini Works. I can't see why this could nto be adopted as well.

 

It also makes more boost at lower engine rpm. Then switches gears at higher rpm to maintain the constant level. I think they can program the unit so its tunable and not just a mechanical gearbox.

I bet that price comes down. I think they are still looking for a high production facility. If they make it available for H3's and Mustangs, There will be other bolt on applications at a good price. I guess only time will tell.

 

Since its using a Rotrex, maybe Revolution Mini could experiment with this. The average guy doesnt have the budget for trial and error with $5000+ parts.

I can only imagine the sound this thing makes, how cool would it be to hear your supercharget wine shift? Very cool, that's how cool.

 

The torque drop off when it shifts looks a little concerning. Matching revs with downshifting might be a little annoying. I guess a blow off valve for boost or changing the gearing could work. Especially for us automatic owners where the lack of low end torque is a problem. The cost is a little steep but comparing it to twincharging for torque it probably would be cheaper.

I would take the transmission off of it and run the pully str8 off the rotrex unit.
