Alta, do you have a dyno, or are you going to get one soon of a stock R56, vs a Turboback, intake, and intercooled one?

We do have a dyno in house! WE did those tests already. The thread is located HERE! Check it out. I do expect to have my personal (previously undynoed) R56 on the dyno later this week. Sorry for the delay.

Like 320dTouring in the above post says... a turboback netted 22whp gain with a cat, yet with the front mount, intake, and turboback is only a 15-20whp gain? I'm not understanding something... I understand the intercooler will keeps engine temps down, but having an intake at 10WHP? and a turboback separately at 22whp (unless that graph is with an intake and turboback-but then it's seems like not enough HP)..... I'm missing something I think.....................................:confuse d:

Sorry for the confusion. The graphs may need additional clarification. I will try to have ALTA2 make some changes to reduce the confusion.

SlowB00st: Check out our turbo kit for at least that! (not out yet, soon, blah, blah blah!)

ChrisMCS04: This core is large enough for more than 400WHP, and rated for even more. Also, less than 1/2 lb at 20 psi sustained across the core.

Regarding black: The powdercoat will work and may be available at sometime soon. The powder does hurt efficiency a bit. The rad paint above may be a better choice in the meantime.

Thanks again!

I'll take the factory twin scroll turbo from an Evo 9. I know the mini's turbo is a borg warner but, does it have a T-2 flange? Or are borg warner turbo flanges completely different from garrett

Hello Frank, what kind of car is that behind you in the pics? The red one with two white stripes?

not to be a stick in the mud but, I see the VIR MINI in front of you in some of the pics. Is this a VIR member day lead follow?

They are different, but Alta designed an adapter plate for the t2 flange, which I hope is SS instead of Aluminum

Here is a pic from Alta2:

But lets stop with the offtopic since this is an Intercooler thread...

Thanks slow boost! That's pretty slick and saves you from buying a new exhaust mani. I have a gt2871R on my 240sx, running ~19psi. It should be too hard to swap...hmmmmmmm

back on topic: I can't wait to see dynos with Alta's intercooler once people start upping the boost.

I think you'll have a lot of lag...the evo IX has already some lag and it's a 2 litre. That turbo is good for 350 hp...mmm

I saw this on eBay for $100 less. Would Alta please tell me why I'd be better off buying directly from them?

There is a good question:

Couple quick answers:

We do NOT allow Ebay Sales! (The company you are looking at buys through a third party. They do not have access to ALTA sales people or inventory etc. BEWARE!) We have clients that try to save a buck go to Ebay, then wait for months to get the part, or get no updates on their order etc.

Call us direct to order. We are happy to save you money where we can. Combined freight, discounts, etc. (We will NOT compete against any direct dealers based solely on price.)

Customer service: We provide the same levels of customer service as we do tech support and product support here on NAM. When you order direct that all goes to you, before, during and after the sale. (We also support items purchased through authorized dealers as well, of course!)

Further support: We can also direct you to ALTA dealers that do installation, or other service centers around the country.

But Ebay sellers (who aren't ALTA Performance Direct) should be avoided to save headache and keep your money safe! (In the end, you will NOT end up saving the $100)

Questions? Just let me know!

Definately SS, Alta's turbo-plumbing products are always awesome. They often use special formulations for better heat-handling properties.

A 9 turbo would be too big for a Mini for my taste, even a 16g from an 8 with a 9.8 hotside would be big.

bah! Of course it depends on what you're doing with the car but, a little lag can be a good thing, especially on a FWD car (unless you're in a burnout contest). People hear "turbo" and automatically start thinking about lag when they should be thinking torque. I'll take the extra power and transient response of an evo 9 twin scroll.

Turbos once thought impossible to spool are showing up on plenty of small displacement motors. Even GT37R's are becoming a common swap on Evos now. Also, remember Mini's have a much higher compression ratio than evos, which can only help spool and off-boost power.

I'm EXTREMELY interested to see APRs results with the 2.0t FSI... the direct injection cars respond REALLY well with respect to lag and other such things. Its really going to be great once alta gets the reflashes and the 28RS upgrades out. I can't wait!!!

It would be pretty hard to package an Evo 8/9 turbo in the R56 -- here's a pic of the hotside. and O2 Housing:

I'd rather have a GT28 or 3071 w/ a .63 -- I also don't think a 16G would not be bad on these cars, even a "big" one

Question for all of you lucky NAM'ers who already have the ALTA FMIC - how long was the install? JSC Speed has one in stock so I'm quite tempted to pick it up, but after being quoted an install time of 4 hours I may just have to leave this mod for last. That's $340 in labor, bringing the total price to a cool $1100. Also it's going to be quite hard to find any day in which I have 4 hours free... Hmmmm

Should be pretty simple, if you have the tools.
ALTA even has step-by-step instructions:
http://www.altaminiperformance.com/s...ampeng420.pdfI definitely think this is a DIY item. That install cost is about half the cost of the FMIC!

I installed mine myself with the help of a friend, right at my house. Directions are straightforward on how to remove bumper, etc. which is pretty easy....longest part for me was just getting the passenger side boost tube on, cause I had to dremel a little plastic.....I have to say though, everytime(seriously, everytime) I park and walk away from my car, I always have to look back at the lower the grille, cause I just LOVE seeing that massive intercooler down there!!

Yea I know, that insane install cost is actually all that's prohibiting me from getting the FMIC right now! The problem is no matter how simple the install, there is no possible way for me to install it myself as I don't have the proper facility. Even if there was room in our parking lot for such a thing, the college has strict rules against it (QUITE annoying). So basically I have no choice but to go on what my installer is quoting me. Although I am going to call around to two more places tomorrow for additional quotes.
