Picking up Dinan S1 Tomorrow Morning...

I just got the call. The Dinan S1 Install on my 04 MCS has just been completed. Tomorrow morning I'm driving the rental Chevy Impala down to NorthWest Mini and swapping it for a real car!

This will be the first real performance mods I've installed. Everything else has been interior, electronics, etc.

It was fun to drive before at 139 HP. I can't wait to see how it handles at 185!

I'll post something after I take her for a test drive in the morning.

That's the claim from Dinan. Actually, 182 hp. Sorry. But it's a darn nice jump.

http://www.dinancars.com/Mini.asp?Se...is=40&Model=91

It's Stage 3 Engine Software, High Flow Cowl Induction Intake System, Free Flow Exhaust, and Strut Tower Brace.

I don't know if I'm going to put the badge on the back (too many posers putting badges on without the gear to back it up) or just stay stealth. But I'm certainly using the floormats! And the Serial numbered plaque for the engine compartment is just gravy.

48 Whp from software, intake and exhaust, don't think so. You have to go to their stage 2 just to get a SC pulley.

I do not doubt about Dinan kit, but I think your stock MCS should be stronger than 139 whp.

Always the trouble with HP stats... gotta use the same baseline.

Right fron the Dinan site:
Peak Horsepower: 182 @ 7000 rpmPeak Torque: 161 lb/ft @ 4500 rpm

However you measure it, it's a boatload more HP.

Yea I think your both right, stock MCS BHP is 163, so the Dinan is giving you 19 BHP, which is about right for those mods . You need to get a SC pulley and I would like to see what their software would do for me .

Dinan people almost always use bhp when relating their figures to customers. It only makes sense since a casual customer is use to the conventional bhp fiigures from media/magazine sources.

Let us know what kind of power increases your Biological Buttometer picks up. You're gonna' love the way the exhaust burbles and pops when you downshift and de-cel and roars with pronounced blower whine during acceleration. You won't need a stereo anymore!

We're going for the S2+ upgrade when we take our car off the road for the Winter. 209 BHp here we come!

Hi, I see you have a Dinan ECU upgrade, does it work with all the differant mods that you have? Is it plug and play? Or do they have to install it? Do you think it helped you any? Thanks for any info. .

Uh... all I can say is WOW. Actually the real equation is...

Results = ((Wow * Yippy) + OMFG) ^ WOO-HOO!)

It's a completely different animal now!

The thing that amazes me most is the sound. Go easy on the pedal and it sounds fairly close to stock. Nice and quiet with a slightly better low rumble. But step on it and she just ROARS!

I haven't had a chance to really try out the increased HP yet, with it being Labor Day and traffic in Seattle being what it is. But coming onto the freeway, a quick shift into second and let her go, it just leaped to well past 70 and I still had 300ish RPMs left before the new redline. And once she hit 4000 you could feel it shove you back in the seat.

Ended up costing me about $2500 for the complete S1 package installed and warrantied. Best money I've spent on the Mini so far. Bar none.

-Scott

(And the Dinan floor mats are really sweet too. Just have to decide where to put the Badge now...)

Congrats on the new mods Scott!

I've seen folks dog out the floor mats but they really are good quality.

If you like the performance upgrades you should test drive the Dinan suspension. I've got the S2 with I.E. fixed plates and it's been the best upgrade (confidence booster) I've made yet.

Have fun and stay safe!

Brad

Nothing against Northwest MINI but if you live in closer to Seattle than Fife, you should talk to John at Car Tender. They are Dinan dealers, do great work and will just sell you the parts if you want to do the installation yourself.

I have the S1 - it's not an eye-opening change in power. Power does build better over the RPM range, and the does seem to breath better, but it is not a 48whp kick in the ****.

It's because they work with MINI and the work/parts are warrantied, just like JCW.

And yes, Dinan must be measuring in HP, not WHP, because they would just be ridiculous. My MINI dyno'd at 141whp stock.
