How to keep HEAT out with new Short Shifter?

I just put in a Helix SS kit ($45 only) and I love everything about, but since the bottom of the shifter has now become longer the box under the car above the heat shield, will not fit anymore so it just stays off. This is a very common thing with SS, but I don't like that heat that is coming off or near the shifter. I heard B&M sells a new box that is about 1" deeper but is only sold with the kit. How can I fix this problem? I was thinking of wrapping the exhuast for more heat protection.
Mario

Bend the heat shield so that the extension fits.

You're imaging things...the plastic cover just keep the dust out...I've been without a box shield for over 66k and have not experienced heat, noise, or water damage...

But you never sit still, either. And your exhaust noise scares the heat away.

Is it the heat from the touch of the shift lever, or radiant heat from that general area?

I have the same heat issue with the helix ssk. A LOT of heat when driving the car hard. Since the extension sits so close to the Milltek resonator and heat shield, there is very little room for air to get in there so radiant heat seems to transfer through the heat shield. I tried wrapping the resonator with tape but I ended up removing it because it kept falling apart (the tape) and the clearance was tight to begin with. (I had to lower the exhaust due to clearance issues) Now I just live with the heat...Sorry, I know this is no help to you.

I have the Rogue SSK and the instructions are the same as Helix...hmmm...maybe the heat is blocked by my Tiburon shift boot mod? I don't know but I don't experience the radient heat that some of you do...

Funny, just yesterday and before reading this post, I noticed for the first time the radiant heat seeping up through the leather boot with the Helix SSK.
I have to agree that MarioKart is not imagining things -- the plastic cover may not be needed to keep water and dirt out (the heat shield does that), but it does seem to make a difference in keeping heat out.
. . . . although I can live with it since I try to only keep my hand on the shifter when shifting.

BTW: Info on shaping the heat shield to accomodate the longer arm doesn't help -- it's the lack of a plastic cover which is allowing heat to seep up.

i don't know about Mario's -- but mine isn't that bad at all. I've had my SSK for months (through the worst of the summer) and didn't notice it until yesterday for the first time . . . so it's noticeable, but I wouldn't even describe it as a "problem"

Edit: in fact, when I noticed it yesterday, it went something like this:

- hmm, there's some heat coming up through the shifter leather boot -- I hope over time it doesn't dry up or otherwise harm the leather
- .3 seconds later -- oooooh, a new Hooters bilboard. . . nice! (I really like their wings)
- .4 seconds later -- Dunking Donuts!! is 7pm too late for some donuts?

You want to talk heat eh...

On Track Days about 3/4 through a session the down tubes are so hot I can barely keep my leg against it.

When I had to pull the G2X base unit that is installed where the mirror controls were there is a blast of hot air coming from the area when a window is opened. Closing the windows and turning up the AC stops the inflow of hot air. Open the window some and the cabin is flooded with hot air emanating from that opening.

Next time GNAT is in the shop we are going to fabricate something to stop this heat movement.

Mine creates a lot of heat but I'm lucky that my town is by the ocean and is about 67F to 77F each day. I would love to have this problem go away. I think I will wrap the exhaust pipe under the shifter this weekend. There is plenty of space for the wrap because the Borla Sport doenst have a resenator in the center of the car.

You're gonna fry that box...

I placed my G2X ontop of a custom made platform (aluminum whatelse?) that strattles the rear cup holder...

The box was wrapped with an Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier.

I will send you a text after I do it. I knew the SS kit was too good to be true, but this is true for 90% of them out there.

Ive had the Helix ss on for 10000 of the 13000 miles on my car and have never noticed any heat coming from there. I'm going to the gym later and i'll check and see if in fact it does let het in there

I have the Helix SS also, but no heat problems. I just trimmed the box to fit around the extension rod & then bought some _very_ thin aluminum that I formed to fit over the box and screwed/glued on. The exhaust HS had to be dimpled slightly to allow some extra room, but the heat transfer is no more than stock. Was pretty simple actually.
