Dinan CAI

I plan on installing my CAI tomorrow, and I've been overlooking the instructions and it says that I need to upgrade the performance software. So is it safe to install the CAI without it or is it important that I send my ECU to Dinan to get it reprogrammed. (Don't really know where the ECU is )

Thanks in advance

You're fine. I wouldn't worry about it

My MCS hasn't blown up yet!

I just installed mine last weekend and it runs great.

I didn't have the Dinan ECU installed. I'll probably get it at some point, but it's not on the top of my list.

What I was told was that the Stage 3 Dinan ECU will increase performance but is not mandatory.

You'll love your CAI, sounds great.

I don't think you need to get a Dinan ECU, just need to upgrade the software. But I don't know how much that would cost.

"Upgrading" your software is practically, not technically, irrelevant. Better CAI = More Air = More Fuel to Burn = More Power. Flashing to different software or a later version of Mini's will merely take better advantage of the extra power.

But considering you'll only be adding around 5hp, there won't be much to take better advantage of, or smooth out.

So do you NEED it? No.
Will it smooth out the power, or help to make a little extra? Most likely.
Would it be worth the extra cost (generally)? Hell no.

Don't forget. More Air = More Dirt = Engine Wear
At least where those gauze filters come into play.

Here are some pictures of the final installation. But I'm worried that I might of taken a bit too much off the plastic. I don't know if it would affect the air flow.

I think it looks fine. If your really concerned about it, you could tape it up.

I was considering taping but just wanted some opinions on here first.
