Insurance for the other car

Question about HPDE insurance:

I have found a number of companies that will cover damages to my car, but what about if I hit someone else.

I'm driving a mini cooper - okay so 15K if I wreck. But, the guy next to me might be driving a Ferrarri. I can't afford >100K to cover his car if its my fault and at speed, I might spin.

How is this usually handled and does anyone know of insurance like this.

Oops, I was offering general car insurance info, missed the HPDE detail. Contact your insurance agent?

I have not researched it, but I always thought each covered his own, IOW if you hit the Ferrari it's his problem not yours, because he's in the "wrong place" just as you are, if you understand what I mean.......

I've never heard of any insurance for a vehicle entered in any kind of organized speed event.

Here's a current thread on HPDE insurance. Best bet is to contact Lockton Affinity direct to get an answer to your question regarding fault.

The general answer to your question is "his car, his problem". You are not OBLIGATED to do anything for the other car. It is generally accepted that stuff happens on the track. People spin, bounce off walls, bounce off other cars, drop oil and have mechanical problems that cause you to stop on the track. It is a risk you take when tracking your car.

Now whether you could sleep at night is a different issue.

I don't know that track insurance covers others. It doesn't even cover the damage you do to the track walls etc.

I bought weekend coverage from Lockton and I didn't think to ask them what would happen if I hit a Ferrari.

Every insurance company I have talked to is very clear -- they will only cover my car.

I like the ... "It's risky so watch your own backside. If it gets crumpled, you should be ready to fix it yourself."

-Jamie

PS> I've never touched a car to anything else in my life, so don't take this as I'm a risk junkie and looking to smash up other cars. Just CYA
