Boston BMWCCA @ Watkins Glen, April 20-22

Anyone going to Watkins Glen on the weekend of April 21st and 22nd? I registered this week and *think* I've been accepted.

Is this event open to novice drivers, not in their club?

Is it open to people not in the SCCA?

Where can I find information on this?

All BMWCCA events require you to be a member. The actual events are put on by an individual chapter, and they sometimes require you to be a chapter member, too. The Watkins Glen event description is here. The cost is very reasonable at $395 for two days (and I don't think Watkins is one of the cheaper tracks). The schools are very well run, and you'll have an instructor in the car with you at all times. They're typically open to novices, and I believe this particular event has a discounted rate for novices.

Wow... the discount for first timers is huge! I wonder if there's a catch - like fewer driving sessions.

I'm thinking about heading out to the Glen, but I'm not sure if I'll go to this event or a different one.

I haven't run into any cases of a certain chapter wanting you to be a member of their chapter for their events. Some will open registration to their chapter a few days before it opens for everyone, but that's as much as I've ever seen around here for chapter favoritism.

Yes, I want to. But no, I'm not going to be at this event.

I just registered for the ADSS on April 7 and the HPDE on April 13, both at NHIS. So, that saps my budget for a little while.

The Glen is a blast (the uphill esses and the boot rock), if you can get there do it, ~395 for 2 days is actually pretty good, NASA/PDA, is charging about $270 for one, so that is an excellent deal. If you've never done a DE before just make sure your brakes have been gone over (upgraded pads are a plus), you will use them
