+1 on that! I was down at NJMSP years ago with a set of "combo" pads that were designed to be midway between street and race. Ended up with a brake fire that led to my infamous Cajun Caliper. See attached pic. An hour earlier the caliper was bright orange, the same color as the carrier. Lesson learned. Race pads ever since.
ebc yellow are track pads and not very safe on the street they don't brake well till at least 200 degrees, dangerous driving around on them

Wow, ya, I remember that story

Mega72 says he has some DTC60s on order. Those should work well for him.

My guess is you will see that with most race brake pads. Take a look at time 38:10 in this race:

I know people who use the DTC 60 pads on their E30 race cars. They like the instant bite they have. My Wilwoods leave a lot of iron behind on my wheels after a session at a place like WGI.

On a different note:

The snow tires came off this past weekend. Car got washed to get the salt off. Now to look into my first track day. Probably something in May after the snow melts...

Snow again?
Maybe. Then again one of my snow tires was down to the wear bar and the rest are not far behind. The AS tires I put on will probably serve just as well if we do get some.

[QUOTE=Eddie07S;4253421]Hey, I have had a chance to do some highway miles since I had the thermostat and aux water pump fixed.

Got to say, it seems back to normal. No running of the fan.

Still normal? Fan not running excessively? My MINI is in having something else fixed and I think I'll have them check the aux pump.

Still good. If you're fan is coming on when you turn the engine off, even when it is cool out, then I would get it checked.

it was 80 Saturday and I started getting temps near 230 and the fans were on quite a while at the paddock

these r53 radiators big enough for the car? I saw this once before but we were racing pretty close I figured I was not out of the draft enough

Don't know that much about the R53s for water temps. There are some aftermarket radiators for the R53s, but I thought they were mostly to get rid of the plastic end caps that can fail. You could look into those to see if they are larger.

Typical water temps for the R56 that I have seen on the track are 215 to 225 with as high as 235.

Changed oil temp sensor to oil pan plug, now have truer reading of temperatures. Getting ready to install Recaro seats for season since I am going to Track Night in America at Thompson on April 25th.

Eddie07S how are the race seats working out? I have the passenger seat pressure by-pass and the seat belt sensor by-pass you found. Will let you know how they work out.

did you put in full fixed buckets? I put in sparco recliners and used ista/p to disable the side airbag and seat sensors, I guess you could do that with ncsexpert too

I have a Hans Pro XL for the driver's seat and a Pole Position for the passenger. Use a resistor by-pass for driver's side air bag with a seat position sensor on driver's side. Plan on mounting this year on slider for adjustment. Passenger side will have same resistor along with other by-pass units.

Wow, nice on getting the sensor by-pass. I'll have to get that too. Let me know how it works. I should have bought it with you

How are your seats looking in there? Pretty sharp, I expect.

Actually, I have done nothing with my seats. I have been busy skiing, working, etc...But now that the weather has "killed" skiing. Time to get busy. Need to get a roll bar, though.

Hey, speaking of track stuff...hope you enjoy Thompson
And are any people thinking of doing the SCDA LRP event in late May? Any takers?

I have started using Motul 5W-40 on track days and since now I have proper oil temp sensor position I will be able to monitor temps.

mega72 - I change back to stock seats for off-track season driving and wanted to maintain the stock settings and safety features.

I don't know anyone from around here who has done VIR, although I would like to some day. It is a long trip, though, from here.

I like your videos. You run a nice line around the track. Well done.

Thanks, ista-p has a retrograde option to for non airbag/sensor seats

You can also manually do it with NCS expert

Woo Hoo
New tires just showed up on my porch today. Wonder how that happened?

Ya, I went and did it. I was poking around on TireRack, thinking about the possibility of getting a better and more affordable rain tire for the track. I started with the Michelin Pilot Sport, but not at that price. And then, looking at the other Max performance tires, the Continental DW popped up as a close out deal. Half the price of the Michelins or any of the Extreme performance tires. Per the TireRack testing these should have as good or better wet performance as the RE71Rs have. These will replace my nearly worn out ZIIs that I had been using for the wet, and I can save the RE71s for the dry, seeing how their tread is getting down there too.

Sorry Sdriver, I'm "tired out".
