It does look interesting. Lots of turns; could be a great MINI track. I have heard it is more fun than Palmer.
However, the entrance to the track from the pit lane is on the outside of the track where the track-out for T1 is. I expect this can be a little sketchy with cars running full tilt coming out of T1 and cars coming onto the track, trying to blend in. Just need to watch really well coming on to the track.
Albert and I took an impromptu run to LRP on Saturday for a surprise visit with veggivet. What a gorgeous day. Low 60s and clear blue skies for the morning ride there. The temperature rose a bit during the day but remained comfortable with the picture perfect blue skies. Wonderful...
This was a vintage race car event with a DE included, so some fun for everyone. It was great to visit with VV and to see the vintage race cars and whatever people drove there in.
Tree pollen was thick and could be seen coming off the trees in clouds when a breeze came. This covered the cars in a fine yellow patina in a matter of minutes after cleaning the car off. Other than that, the day was perfect.
I found a great route from the Thruway to LRP. Rt 22 south to Rt 71 east, to Creamery Rd (sign “to Rt 41”), south on Rt 41 to Salisbury. In Salisbury left onto Salmon Kill Rd, which goes to Lime Rock Park Rd (Rt 112). A wonderful ride through beautiful, quintessential western New England countryside. It is worth the trip, but bring your patients...
Quick summary of the event. Perfect conditions once the rain passed on Friday morning after the first two sessions. Out on both with street tires to dust off the cobwebs. Slicks went on for the remainder of the runs on Friday and all day Saturday. Lots of fast cars out in my group, but everyone was courteous. Black flags were pretty common, as these drivers appeared to be driving closer to the limit than most SCDA drivers do. That said, some of the cars that you'd expect to be super fast, like the McLaren's, weren't blistering fast, although they passed me by in a flash on the front straight, no name straight, and after the uphill. Event organization wasn't up to SCDA standards, but passable. VSCCA was sharing the track with Empire Drivers, so there were lots of run groups to squeeze in, which means lots of down time between runs. Fortunately, that time went by quickly thanks to having a lot of cool cars to watch on track, and, more importantly, having an unexpected visitor arrive to keep me company. Thanks Eddie 07S!!😁👍 There are lots of great pix up on Eddie's thread about his Adventures with Albert. Definitely worth checking them out. As far as the rest of the season goes, I think I'm going to pass on WGI this year, and probably replace that trip with Club Motorsports in New Hampshire. Have to check out some track video first, of course. Also will run NYST (New York Safety Track) again this year, and Palmer once (counterclockwise). The rest of my package will be eaten up at Lime Rock.
I hope 'track upgrades' include eliminating the ski jump at turn 7.
The ski jump is great... that coming from a skier...
I thought I read that the upgrade was for a “flag” lighting system. I expect the ski jump is there for the motorcycles. Probably will stay. Actually I found it to be no worse than the uphill at LRP. I get air on that one.
As for the 23rd. Not sure at this point. The last time out in the Gray MINI I was getting more than the usual clunks, squeaks and groans from the suspension. I need to look into that before it goes out again. But then again, the JCW hasn’t been on that track... Hmmmm....

Reason: Fix typo
For my usual Advanced run group. I am going to take the JCW to see how it does on that track.
I notice that more groups are going to a “pay for numbers” policy. I should look into getting a set of window clings for the inside of the side windows.
Check out the classic Mini before/after photo. Now I just need to get it running again. It starts but then coughs, splutters and stalls. Feels like a fuel issue. Unfortunately, I haven't yet done a deep dive into the mysteries of the SU carb. I guess that's next on the agenda. How I spent a good chunk of winter and spring.
As for getting the Mini running, I can help with the SU carbs. I did a lot with them when I had my MGA. I still have the alignment tool and “THE” SU book on them. It is sitting right next to my K&E Slide Rule book and my Dad’s 1929 copy of trig functions. .
Also ignition could be an issue. A weak coil can cause an engine to stall after starting.
Yes - I will be at LRP on the 23rd with the JCW...
I am interested in seeing how the brakes do on a less demanding track than WGI. I am also very curious as to how a basically stock MINI handles on this track. The JCW handles surprisingly well at WGI. Where WGI is a brake killer, LRP is a tire killer. It will be interesting to see what the left front looks like after a day at LRP. My intent is to keep the Gray MINI for the short tracks and keep the JCW for WGI. But first, the Gray MINI needs some TLC.
@gkp I could eat dinner off that engine bay, and if looks were correlated with performance, that car would be running like an absolute dream! Nicely done 👍
As of today, I'm on the waiting list. Elivan said it was a short list, so I will let the weather decide. Right now, they're calling for showers. I may make the drive even if I'm not driving on track.

I'm sure you'll get things 'sorted' very soon😁
The first time I take it out, the oil will start flying and the shine will be off. After all, it's a Mini. I replaced many of the gaskets, but not all.
