The track MINI is a different story, though. Check engine light has been throwing numerous codes: PO171, 1237, 1688 and 420. I'd be OK spending the bucks on a new cat if I could be assured that the new one won't be fouled by continued misfires. Or perhaps I should replace the O2 sensors first,
VV, mine was throwing intermittent codes at the track that weren't affecting drivabililty, turned out to be the post-cat O2 sensor. Easy to get at, 5-min job for Anthony at the dealer. I'd try one or both of those first. They are pricey, though....
Thanks for that info, gbuff1; that sounds like a good first step. Sensors may be pricy, but far less than a new cat! Hope your track season is going well, and that your Justa is still smokin' much 'faster' cars 😁

Boy, that's for sure, I think my sensor was like $280 but I'm sure you could do better away from the dealer. Towne does offer a 10% BMWCCA discount though, every bit helps...
The Mini's still rocking, 98k miles now, 22 days down and 8 (or 9) to go for the year....just returned from Mon-Tues at WGI with SCDA. Weather was largely good until y-day afternoon and had a good time. Car was good, especially coming out of the Bus Stop into T5, more than once had to pump the throttle to keep from bump-drafting people Hope your season has been enjoyable as well!
30 track days a season must take its toll on the Justa, not to mention the driver! Sounds like you're having a blast. I went to Club Motorsports in New Hampshire, a new track for me. Had two excellent days on new Nittos. I'll do a total of 7 days this season, 4 down and 3 to go, if the car allows. The only 'moment' occurred at my last event, a couple of weeks ago, when the car went into limp mode at the end of no name straight at Lime Rock, just before the huge uphill😳 Was able to make it to the pit safely, where I read and erased the codes. Car has been 'fine' since, if you don't count the check engine light coming back on after just a couple of start/stop cycles. I'll look into picking up a couple of O2 sensors, and start with the post cat one. If that does the trick, then I'll have an extra when I need it, since the pre and post cat sensors are the exact same part.

gbuff1 - Great to hear from you. It seems you and I are on opposite events at WGI. I was there not too long ago with the JCW at a GVC event. That car is rockin’ it now that I have the brake pads sorted. I know no one but me likes those guys... But is anyone is willing to give them another shot, I’ll be at WGI with GVC at the end of Sept for 2 or 3 days.
I am looking at 8 or 9 days this season. 2 at WGI and at LRP, with 2 upcoming at NYST and then 2 or 3 at WGI. This is about the norm for me.

That's great, VV, hope you can do those days....spoke with Elivan y-day and he was really singing the praises of that track you mention, glad you got to try it.
I'm kinda used to doing the days, been doing it for a long time, I try to stay in reasonable shape for an old guy. Proud of myself in that I haven't had any ice cream at all this year, that used to be a nightly event. Maybe on my last day in October if it isn't snowing
I'm trying to use up my Falkens as I have eight A052s waiting to go on, of course right after I got them the B'stones became available! I'll try 'em next year.

That's great, Eddie, glad the JCW is working for you. I actually looked into that GVC event thinking I could just do the Friday but looks like I'd have to do all 3 days for them to possibly solo me for the future. At this point I rarely do 3-day events anymore, one or two days is plenty for me, the car and the tires. I have another 6, maybe 7 days left there with other groups so I'm good
My main task with the Classic is to keep an eye on all the fluid levels
That is definitely my goal. I'd like to think I am (knock on wood) getting close. After some whining and wine-ing, I sucked it up, put on my big boy pants, and returned to the garage for a rematch with the Hose From Hell. This time I conquered it but not without significant hand bruising. Ran the car for 15 minutes, burped the cooling system and so far, so good. Fingers crossed.
I may pop up the the LRP vintage festival tomorrow for a few hours. It turns out a friend of mine who I haven't seen in years is racing a 240Z.
I may swing down to LRP tomorrow, too. Forecast looks perfect, and the crowds shouldn't be as crazy as the rest of the weekend. I couldn't find a price for an admission ticket on their website. Are they charging for Friday spectators?

Missed again...
The thing is, once you get signed off, that will be good for life. Friday open track is always a blast with all sorts of cars. Drivers are almost always really good. This year they opened up passing everywhere except the esses and bus stop.
If I sign up for 3 days, it will be only to a couple of sessions in the morning on Sunday. With a 3-3/4 hr ride home I found the last time I am too tired after 2 days on the track to do that drive in the evening. So I’ll be staying 3 nights anyway. With a couple of sessions in the morning, lunch and a slow pack-up, I’ll be home before dinner.
VV, gkp - Have fun at LRP. I’ll be prepping the JCW for next Wednesday and putting the front shocks into the R56.

Thanks for the info, Eddie, will keep in mind for the future.
Here's the Black Box two-wheeling (barely) through the Bus Stop earlier this year
It is amazing how well that car has held up with 30 track days a year...
It IS amazing--replaced the tranny last year and just waiting for the engine to blow Otherwise just routine maintenance. Those "lousy" PSA motors do OK

Did you go? I was on the fence but glad I went. Just got home an hour ago. I'm not a huge Corvette fan but the concept cars and historic race cars that GM brought to the event were spectacular.

I would have loved to have seen those. Didn’t know they were to be there. Any pictures?
Club Motorsport on Sept 19th & 20th... Any takers?
I wanted to, but we are housesitting/dogsitting for my daughter. Not something my wife can do on her own. I am definitely getting up there next year. I took 200+ pix at LRP yesterday, haven't had a chance to sort through them yet. I'll email a few once I do. Here's a tease:
In other news, a new set of Bridgestones will be going on the Mini after 1 or 2 more days with the Falkens. Somehow, the rhythm of recent years ends up with me needing new tires at the end of a season instead of at the start, as it should be.
That is a great picture. With what we know today about car aero, the aerodynamic lift on the back of that car would have been terrible... Like the front end lift in the C2 Corvette. But that styling was the thing of the day back then.
That would be a special honor to be chosen as a most interesting car shot. I think Slinger688 had that honor for a while.
Yes, it is. Makes you want to treat me with more respect, doesn't it? I forwarded the email to my daughter and she asked if the Miata was getting ready to pass me on the outside.
