Times to expect from a 2006 base 5spd

Just picked up my new 2006 mini base, with 30 miles on the odo...after break in period I plan to at least see what I can get out of it.

I've been searching this forum, and dont see hardly any times except the S times. I figure i'm a good enough driver to tackle a good time in the base

Expect high 17's.

I got my into the low 16's, the Cooper is so gutless on the bottm end, its almost no fun to drag race.

Wow, I would have figured mid 16's with a perfect run, guess i'll have to wait and see. I am pretty good at launching low torque FWD naturally aspirated cars, used to have a GSR swapped civic hatchback that went 14.2@98 stock

Depending on how heavy your car is (how optioned out is it?) and what wheels and tires you have on it, and how good of a driver you are, mid 16's shouldn't be a problem in stock trim under optimum conditions.

Magazines have gotten 1/4 mile times in the mid to high 16's on 5-speed Coopers and it shouldn't be hard to duplicate with a minimally optioned Cooper at a good track with a decent driver.

If I can keep my RX7 pointed away from the wall on it's 124+mph runs at the drag strip (with no nitrous, which it has) I am sure I can tame my mini's 115 crank hp....

my mini is pretty base, it has the cold weather package, and the premium package...thats really it

stock tiny wheels/tires too

It is not about being able to "tame" the horsepower the car has (or doesn't have) its mainly about getting the best launch possible and making use of all the available traction to turn the best 60' time you can.

I wasn't knocking your skill at the drag strip, but that is the biggest factor in any kind of racing -- driver skill. I don't know you or what skill level you are at, and I don't assume anything.

Let us know how the car did when you go, and post the entire time slip if possible.

Exhaust and an intake and a short shifter, on sticky street tires.

I dont see a problem with running slicks on a stock cooper, so you too can side step the clutch at redline and get killer 60 foot times.

Just watch it man, i broke an axle and blew up a tranny in my 05 (the same "new" Getrag that you have in your car)

Who said anything about slicks? The original poster was talking about the stock wheels and tires, as was I. I've used drag radials on a couple of different cars in the past, but typically just run on street tires.

Well, he wants a stock cooper to run fast.

I'm sure he has a set laying around, seeing he has a few other cars, so it shouldnt cost much more than maybe the price of the junkyard rims to mount the tires on.

My RX7 uses Mickey Thompson Street drag radials, stock IRS and a 4.10 rear gear, and I can cut 1.70 60's with that (3500rpm clutch drop)...The Trans Am I have got a 1.73 60' on all seasons!!

my old swapped Civic naturally aspirated with the torqueless 4cyl I used to cut 2.1 60's on all season tires. I expect to do pretty well with this car. I just have to wait to get past this break in period

Well, it ran 16.6@83 mph 2.4 60'

made 3 pretty identical passes and left ... .. lol I'm guessing mines on the higher end of the weight spectrum since it has the dual sunroofs, and a bunch of options, oh and the 175 width tires

this cars not going back to the drag strip. I did autocross it last weekend, and another one is coming up this weekend
