Haha! I had a big fly today that I thought was just a wing stuck in a crevice on the bumper...and then I went to pull it out and this HUGE fly came out attached to it...ahhhh!
I worked out the process though, although I can't say I necessary would recommend the stuff I used
Hubby had 1/3 bottle of Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover in the garage. I knew right away I was in trouble when I read the directions and it said to "wash and dry car" first. This stuff was clearly intended for someone with 2 little bugs on the front end. It also has the consistency of body lotion - I was pretty grossed out when I first sprayed it out.
Anyway, so I used my Mr. Clean AutoDry to presoak the whole front end with Mystique. I soaked, let it sit for a few minutes, soaked again, etc. Then I took the Turtle Wax bug stuff and sprayed down pretty much the entire front bumper, hood, windshield, and front of the roof. I let that sit for a little while and then used the Mr. Clean (just the water setting) to hose it all off. MOST of the bugs came off, but there were still some left and the bug stuff left a NASTY greasy residue, so I did another soak on the soap setting with the Mr. Clean, got a bucket of Mystique water ready while it soaked, and then did a normal wash and everything came off pretty easily. Then I just did my normal routine of Hydroing everything, Slick on the wheels, Four Star on the tires, Clarity on the glass, vacuumed and Neroed the interior...
And then I get a good look at my trim
The bug stuff left it all horribly white with residue. So I had to get out the Wizard and do a round of that to get it all off.
That said, I don't think I would necessarily recommend the stuff to someone who just had a few bugs, but in the case of my millions of them, I think it was still probably less labor-intensive than just scrubbing at them with soapy water like I did last time, even with the couple of extra steps.

That was a helluva lotta bugs....
My personal favorites are the giant bumblebees - when you hit them, they explode into a golf-ball-sized goo spot full of yellow pollen... yech...

I don't think we have those around here...although my co-pilot was giving me a good play-by-play of the ones that were hitting on her side of the windshield!
"Ooooooooo the insides of that one were GREEN!"

I drove 500 miles through the land of a zillion bugs the last couple of days. Had to do my super-duper pre-Dragon wash this morning. I tried something new. I wanted to use my new bottle of Mistique to wash (first time) but still had some NXT wash, so I rinsed the car well to make sure there was no dust/grit on it, then put a little full strength NXT wash on my hand and gently smeared it around on top of the buggy parts. Surprisingly it instantly dissolved/dislodged about 90% of the bug remains, and by the time I came back with my wash mitt and Mystique (normal dilution) everything slid right off. No fuss, no muss.
Yeah, I got a little too aggressive trying this today and had to spend some time straightening fins... oy vey.
Seems Maryland is at it's peek for both bugs and pollen this week. BLECH !
Not time to throw in the towel (MF, of course) on keeping the daily drivers spotless though. Just takes a lot longer to do so.
Almost makes me wish summer was here so the pollen goes away and the bugs thin out. Almost.

I tried Wizard's Bug Release today on the legacy...wife went out in
the rural areas last week for work and them bugs got her good.
front bumper and side mirrors, parts of the glass.
basically i wetted down the car, sprayed BR on the affected areas.
i wash the car from the roof down so by the time i got to the front
bumper the bugs were nice and soft and 99% of it just came off with
one swipe of the wash mitt. no scubbing.
if i was to do it again, i would spray BR on the windshield before
wetting it down cause it's easier to see where the splats are. then,
wet down the car (glass at the end) and go about the regular wash.
im happy with the product. got it at www.detailersparadise.com

Cover the affected area with a really big, really wet towel...wait about 15 minutes...should wipe right off! Been doing this for years on my motorcycles...works like a damn! You just need to soften those little bug(gers) up and they come right off!
wash, i really don't know for sure.
what i do know is that the product washes off with car shampoo and
does not leave behind any residue.
