Car washing for the non-OC
"
I took OG's advice and got a Little Bissell. I figured, "Meh? I could use it for spit ups by the baby and puke ups by the puppies, too, so why not?"
Well somewhere in this "non-OC"
thread we mentioned Wizard's Black Renew. Well I just tried it yesterday & it is good stuff. I thought my black bits were looking pretty good but adding the Wizard's made me realize how much better they could look. My Mini looks brand new as long as you don't get really close & see all the rock paint chips. I am still anxious to try this new trim stuff octane guy is cooking up but the Wizard's is very impressive

bamatt - Just don't get any in your mouth > no bueno!
Did you just do the trim or did you put some on the tires as well?
I love it on the tires, very black but no Michelle Pfeiffer Cat Woman suit shine to it at all.

No, not a paste but a thick liquid. I use one of the curved foam tire gel applicators from Pep Boys. Two in a pack for $1, have the yellow tops on them. These work great for tires and trim.
cool... sounds good. i've got to try it one of these days. i just used Nero the other day and it looks good, but after the rain, i saw that it runs a little bit, which means i probably either put too much on or should have gone back with a second pass to wipe off the excess.
When I use the Wizard I usually put a coat on all the way around, tires & trim. Then I do it again. When I've finished I then go back and wipe off any excess. Guess you could say I'm letting it soak in a bit, but for the life of me I can't see how vinyl trim and rubber tires can soak in anything.
Seems to work good though!

Wow. I just spent an hour and half reading this whole thread, and my head is spinning...
Here's my story: My MINI (06 MCS HB/W) is waiting for me in Portsmouth, VA. I should be able to pick it up by the 5th of March (unless the place is open on Saturday, then I'll get it on the 3rd). Anyway, as one who is not (yet) OC about washing/waxing/etc. (I had to go to detailers paradise to look up what clay was and how you use it), I am looking for a one-size-fits-all kit that has the basics for a good clean and nice shine that can be maintained fairly easily (like a once a week wash?) I'm talking towels, "stuff", applicators, etc. Heather? Any help there? I am checking out your website, it's great, but a do-all kit would be awesome.
One question though: I am going to get a roof graphic and stripes from AC; will it matter if the car has already been thoroughly washed/clay/wax before I have them installed? What about after installation? Can you (should you) clay/wax vinyl graphics?
Sin-Mini, love your pics.
Mini-Maybee, I think my tires would look great with that $20 hooker shine to
them!
To all the rest, thanks for making my head spin. Anybody in VA want to detail my car for me?
THANKS A MILLION!!!

Oh Heather, do you see an opportunity here.
I'm positive someone else PM'd you the same thought.

I just used a non-MF cheapo lintless cloth to apply it. I prefered using the cloth becuse I had more control where I was applying it & could try to miss the paint while getting the edges really good. I used it pretty sparingly & rubbed it in well (just like I would when applying lotion to my body) & I didn't go back & wipe any off. My trim looks 2 shades darker & all hints of pasty wax mars that had reappeared are gone
I would love to apply it to my tires but
it's a bit pricey for me to apply it that freely.
. (Should I feel violated?)Looks great, and smells fruity!!! Since the car spends all day during the week in the Vegas sun we figured this would put almost 4 weeks of serious stress on the coat. We'll see what it looks like at AMVIV!
Come with me to the darkside. You see what we did to SinMini
I about fell out of my chair!!
OG was in Sin City past couple of days and "sauced" my trim
