Cleaning Mufflers?

In another thread, I commented that I cleaned/polished my JCW mufflers, the pan under the battery, and occasionally the entire undercarriage and got the expected comments.

I thought I'd post a couple pictures to see what others thought...

If you can see stuff under the car, doesn't it help the whole car if it's clean?

Oh, well...I enjoy keeping it clean.

It does look good. I might try that tomorrow, if it doesn't rain...

you should get a large mirror under your car like those
Tamiya display cases for plastic models and diecasts.

Mirror....hadn't thought about that... Might make a trip to a store tomorrow.

I just do it for the enjoyment. I've always wanted a car to keep clean, like a show car but not for competitions.

At least I haven't gotten to the point where I'm Q-Tipping the tire treads. Hey...that would give me something to do Sunday...

There is really no point unless you clean the INSIDE of the mufflers.

That is dedication for sure.

And what did you use for that? The wenol? You defiantly need mirrors.

Edit: After reviewing the other thread, you said you use Griot's metal polish. How do you apply that? How do you prep for it? I am thinking about giving this a try.

Also how do you apply the simple green? Do you just spray on, then rinse off? You mentioned getting under the car, doesnt seem like a good idea to be spraying above your head

That looks perfect! I thought I did a good job detailing my car but you have soon a whole new level of clean to me. I need to step it up I guess.

Very Nice Work!

This is the metal polish I use.

http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog....1002&SKU=11155

I also bought some of these disposable towels to apply the polish.

http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?SKUupsell=92398

I use a clean wipe to remove the polish.

The only prep I do is when I wash the car, I spray off the undercarriage to get off the loose stuff. I will usually wash the mufflers and the panel under the battery with the tire wash soap after finishing with the tires.

For the tire wells, I just spray everything and wipe it off. For under the car, I will spray a small section away from my face and then wipe. If I can't do that, I will spray the rag and then wipe.

I probably do have some "OCD" but I enjoy the results.
