Grrr.... I will NEVER take a non-MINI owners advice again....

I just wanted to rinse off the dirt, someone (unnamed husband) had written on my back window and it was cold out. I thought, fine, just go rinse it at the car wash. No touching it etc..... So I go and the STUPID car wash is broken. No, not broken but malfunctioning and before I realized it the damage was done. What did it do? Just one of those little wand jobs, I'm spraying the thing down, it's set on rinse and all of a sudden *stuff* starts coming out.... it's wax! The stupid thing wouldn't spray anything but it's awful wax. It sealed my dirt under wax and no amount of rinsing in a different bay would remove it so until I get to the bucket those words "I need love" are permanently on my window. Not to mention the rest of the car that got sprayed....

I should have just braved the cold and washed it in the driveway as I planned but Noooooooo I listened to the ornery dirt writer himself....

So will I have to do a dawn wash to get this wax off? It's pretty persistent, I can actually draw my finger across the window and it smudges but doesn't come off....

Oh my! I do think a Dawn wash is in order, but let's see what OctaneGuy suggests. In the meantime, tell hubby "no love for you, buddy!" What a predicament...sounds like something that would happen to Mick (Flora/Blue)!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Those so called wax sprays at the DIY places are pretty worthless. I would just wash your car with a normal car washing detergent.

So let me get this straight.

You are trying to remove some "dirty finger written letters" off your back window, and now that you've unintentionally washed it with a wax, the letters really won't come off now. So you want to know what to do next?

I'd say:

1.) Don't panic
2.) Get some claybar and clay the window
3.) Spray it with a good glass cleaner after you've done this. Prima's Clarity is terrific, otherwise most any glass cleaner will work here--make sure it's ammonia free if the glass is tinted and you spray the inside of the glass--otherwise it doesn't matter for the exterior.

As others have said, a Dawn Wash may help. As an alternate or step before the clay bar..I would probaby fill a bucket with warm wash water, use Dawn as the soap, and have a nice sponge with some bite, or even a red shop towel---those are fairly rough too. And then rub the glass until the writing comes off.

ive never had any issues with the quarter washes.

the wax realy doesnt do much of anything, but its not going to harm anything either.

Next time just grab some window cleaner, heck a decent gas station squeege would do the trick.

I have invisible glass that I use would probably cut through the wax on the boot wihtout much issue if I still had some difficulty a clay followed by glass cleaner should do the trick.

(I have issues with the thought of using Dawn on my car, I just do)

i would probably start off with a regular car wash (by hand ofcourse)
then spray the entire car down with Griot's PaintPrep, soak it for
a good 2-3 min. (continue to mist tap water with a water bottle to
keep it moist per their instructions, work the product with a MF
towel) and rinse it all off with a hose.

clay (if needed) and wax as usual.

What, Ken!? You wouldn't use Evian or filtered water in the mist bottle?

Ugh, that is so sad. But fear not, with the proper MINI-advice you now have, you should be able to get the smear off.

Ok, so yesterday I take all this lovely advice, decide to keep the husband anyway, and head out with regular car wash soap..... nope, doesn't do the trick. Glass cleaner, nope still there.... got the dirt off but the words still show up when the window gets wet..... so it was to the Dawn wash....... took them off but it actually took a couple of scrubbings. Whoever thinks the wax in the quarter washes is worthless doesn't go to this car wash!

I did note that the bay I used had a rope across it with an "out of order" sign on it...... should have crime scene tape around it in my opinion.

my regular wash recommendation was so that you don't scratch
your surface when you work the PaintPrep afterwards. (just to be clear)

im starting to sound like octaneguy!

Well once you make the connection that I'm a vendor, you'll be that much closer.
