Reuse applicator pads? IE, after waxing?

I've seen some circular applicator pads that are 'washable', the package says you can wash it after you wax your car, etc.

If you wash, do you toss them into the washing machine? Do you fear you might clog it with wax?

One example is this 'sponge'... I've also seen the white fabric/micro-fiber brands that claim washable/reuseable.

Since they run about $2 for a pair, I figure I'll toss it and buy new ones. Piece of mind.

how many 'uses' do you think you can get out of it? I'd like to see how much my dollar can go, if time != money

many many times... at least 10x. Just make sure you wash it as soon
as you're done with the app. i usually just wash it while the wax
is curing so i don't just sit there in my garage picking my nose.

Good to know... thanks.

BTW, I don't pick my nose while waiting for it to cure... I watch tv... in the garage. Helps to keep time and waxing go by faster...

I guess I don't have the patience, perhaps it's laziness to wash the wax out. Even the cloths I use to buff, I toss. Lately, I been just using some old socks, turned inside out, then tossing it.

i use mine over and it lasts as long as my container of wax. its not like it hurts anything to reuse it.

I wash mine in the washing machine Or if I just have a few to do or super dirty ones, in my portable Wonder Washer. Eventually they will split in half after numerous uses and you will have to toss them. For the ones I use for tire dressing, I store them in a zip lock bag to keep everything from getting slippery and greasy.

DP has some 3" foam pads that are like $1 a piece. get a ton of those
then.

I use blue microfiber applicators, I wash them after each use to remove the chemical residue. I add vinegar to the rinse water.

In theory, if you are waxing, the paint should be completely contaminant free. If the applicator pad picks up anything, you are causing marring.

Tossing foam applicators is one way of making sure you have a clean one, but using a sock to remove wax...well I don't know what to say. Try a soft microfiber Viking towel which you can usually find OTC (autozone, etc.) and do a search on microfiber care. Your paint will thank you.

Hmmm does your paint look like this???

Actually using cotton to remove wax isn't a bad thing. Using a high quality cotton towel will leave more wax on the paint than a microfiber which tends to remove a lot more. It's a little known fact though because MF's are so popular. But I don't think an old sock could be considered "high quality" for your paint.

i noticed on my Griot's 100% cotton towels (the thin polishing towels)
they work well until machine washed. it seems like the minerals in the
water hardens into the fiber and it stays there... scratches your finish
the next time you use it unless it's wet.

since then, ive stopped using it and started using the DP Platinum MF
towels for detailing. DP PMF's great.

wow. cotton keeps more wax on eh? Fascinating.

I am all about lengthening time between waxing with my paste.

octaneguy takes like 30 years to spit out all of his knowledge. I wish I knew this prior to waxing 3 times in 4 months

its mostly because the wax gets gunked up into the cotton fibers
quicker and just doesn't pickup wax efficiently as MF does.

nope... Far from it. I'd stop way long before it gets that far. Actually, there isn't swirls on my car, just a lot of pits and chips. I could use a clay soon, the boot's got the gritty feeling.

Do you always remove the cowl vents when you wax?

Yep! Cause it only takes 5 seconds to remove both, and getting splatter in the vents can take hours to clean!

This is only true if you own a rotary buffer. As far as I know, this won't work with the PC because it doesn't rotate enough to drive the spurs.
