Prima Slick vs Griots Speedshine

I'm a newbie to MINI's, and more serious detailing. I wanted to support Dealer's Paradise because of their strong presence here. I purchased a small bottle of the Prima Slick QD, and it was "love at first squirt!" So much so, that I bought a gallon next week!

I'm totally satisfied with the Slick, but just curious how the Speedshine compares/differs? Is there a need for both, or are they redundant?
Thanks much

it's either or, but for me, i use Slick over the Epic coated wheels on my
weekend cars and use Speedshine over my NXT/Griots SprayOn wax or
Best of Show coated paints.

Slick imho is very shiny so it really depends on your preference.
SpeedShine is a more natural shine.

oh yah, i also use Meguiar's red bottle QuikDetailer to remove
bird crap.

I've used Meguiar's consumer NXT Speed Detailer and Quik Detailer and Professional Last Touch and Final Inspection. I also have a gallon of Slick.

I use Slick on my paint whenever I want the best look. Slick with the Monster Fluffy is a fantastic combo. I use everything else for the non visual stuff--like claying my car, cleaning my wheels, removing bird poo, etc..

Glad you like the Slick!

As kenchan pointed out, they have somewhat different looks and effects. So ultimately, it depends on what you like!

Slick is high shine with a moderate amount of gloss. It also creates a super-slick surface (which is fun to touch for some odd reason!). Although it's obviously subjective, most of our customers agree that Slick looks best on metallics, pearls and light to medium colors. It also looks great on non-metallic dark colors, but only if you like a shine-gloss look. Honestly, from our customer feedback, Slick has gained much of its popularity due to the fabulous slickness it gives the surface.

Speed Shine has more warmth and richness in the way it looks. I believe it contains some carnauba wax in it, which explains the warmth attribute. It doesn't create a slick surface though (also due to the likely carnauba, IMO). The warmth look (again, very subjective here) tends to be favored for non-metallic dark colors, although it also looks great on any dark color too.

As another option, if you want less shine, more gloss (aka wetness), and the slickness, Prima Hydro can also be used as a quick detail spray. I would say its sort of in between the other two in looks (but equal slickness as Slick, for those who like to touch their paint after QDing).

From an application standpoint, I think Slick is easiest to use. The Speed Shine and the Hydro are a little thicker and can thus take a few more swipes of your cloth to achieve your final buff.

As both kenchan and OctaneGuy pointed out, different produts can be favorites for different parts of the car due to their varying results.

Of course, I like Slick better... but hey, I'm biased! Slick is also our best selling item in our store (online and retail store) across all categories and products/tools. The gallons are starting to fly off the shelf these days too. Who knows though... maybe Speed Shine is Griot's best seller too!

Ultimately, it really depends on what you like... from the look to the application to the feel.

yah, i would compare the slickness of Slick to Griot's SprayOn wax.
Speedshine is not slick, rather just a smooth baby butt feel.

imagox- don't get any ideas please.

I agree Heather--I like the Slick feeling so much, I can't stop rubbing it Aside from that, what I like most is that I can use it on all of the exterior surfaces of my GP--the metalic paint, flat black paint, plastic trim, chrome, glass, etc. Not that I would use it as first choice in all of those applications, but for a quick rub down of the car, without concern for messing up some of those surfaces, it's awesome--not sure if the other QD's are that way?

And on top of all of the superlatives given to Slick, its alien-blood green and smells tasty too. How can anything top that! Heck, kenchan even uses it on his teeth.
I use Slick daily (though not today because there is 6" of snow in the way) to clean the boot and wipe down the paint. I use it on a not so good microfiber to rid the wheels of brake dust and under the bonnet to get the engine bits clean. I'm sure I should really be buying it by the gallon.

I actually used a lot of my Slick in an emergency situation recently where I was stranded by the side of the road with a broken Mini Fini Tow Link. In order to get things reassembled and on my way, I had to force things back together and lubricate it liberally, and of all the chemicals I had--Slick was the most slippery!

LOL, it worked. Slick saved my life!

Now THAT is really a new one. I thought I had heard it all! I really shouldn't be endorsing the use of Slick for anything to be consumed but you might be on to something here with the pasta...

On the subject of food, while Slick might make the noodles more slippery, the smell wouldn't quite go with pasta. I think you might have to counter that with a large dose of herbs!

Imagine how smooth it would be going down! Might work better than Pepto as it coats your insides!

Does that mean things would go down a lot easier??
