A few days ago I reported how my car cover scratched my MINI during a strong wind storm. I had scratches on both the front and rear bumpers, the bonnet and roof area.

The scratches could only be removed by machine polishing. I bought from Griot's Garage, their polish and wax system. The system consisted of a Porter Cable Randon Orbital polisher, machine polish grades # 1, 2 &3. Their Best Of Show Wax, paint cleaning clay, foam pads, micro fiber wax cloths .

I used the clay bar along with their product called Speed Shine to lube the paint area . I started off with the machine polish # 3 as it is the most finest when it comes to grit. It did help some, but I had to go up to machine polsih # 2 which is a mild polsih. Scratches are gone. I came behind that with Griot's Garage Best of Show wax applied with the machine. Also was able to remove 95% of the wax with the orbital. I then just buffed out the paint with the micro fiber cloths. No swirl markes at all, just a deep wet looking shine.

I don't work or sell for Griot's Garage but just wanted to report my findings with their car care products.

I'm completely sold on Griot's Garage. They are a little more expensive but well worth it IMO.

One last thing...I took the Chili Red MINI down to the local service station to top off with some fuel.. While there, I had two different people reply that they thought the shine was as nice as they had ever seen. They didn't ask about the MINI, just about the outstanding color, depth, and clarity of the paint.

Glad things worked out so well! I can't imagine (wait...maybe I can) how bummed you must have been to see those "car cover scratches" in the first place. You deserve to bask in the glory of your accomplishment! Congrats!

Hey jds

Yep, I thought for sure that the body shop might be the next step for my MINI. I figured I needed to try and fix the paint if at all possible. I'm sure glad it turned out so well. Most of my so called fixes never turn out quite the way I had planned. Thanks for your congrats.

I also use Griots Garage products & have been extremely pleased with them.Their random orbital deal is a ripoff, though- you can get the same Porter Cable model at Lowe's (or some other such home improvment store, I'm sure) for a lot less. I saved $90 on it and the hook & loop backing plate. I use the GG foam pads, Best of Show wax, & microfiber wax removal cloths with it. Outstanding results!
