I got a huge package from Detailers Paradise for my birthday (I have the best sister ever!!!!) and just got in from putting on the second coat of Epic. MAN does that look great. I worked on my Astro black mini and it looks fantastic - really wet and slick, it removes a bit of the blue hue and makes it look more true black (I was using Mequiars Professional M80 to get the same look - but Epic is way richer). Also Black Magic - great stuff - cleaned up some past mistakes. So far I highly recommend it - hope it holds well this winter.

Tomorrow I do it all over again on my FI's Royal Grey....

You need to either give us 1000 words or a picture!

Heather- Chicago's going down into the low 30F's tomorrow down to maybe
even high 20F's by Friday...

My garage temp goes down to about 35-37F in the coldest days (like when it's
0F outside). Is that too cold for storing Prima products?

What is your recommended storage temps?

up to now, it seemed that most people who were using synthetics were using Zaino or the Klasse twins..I use Zaino and am amazed at the slicknes, beading, and longevity.....Heather, or anyone, have there been any head to head to head comparisons of Epic w/amigo vs Zaino Z2 vs Klasse as far as longevity, slickness, beading etc?

I wonder about this as well... I think my garage keeps above freezing (snow melts off my car overnight in most cases), but it DOES get cold out there.

Thanks!

yah, one of the reasons why i want to get rubber tiles too... it's
great insulation from the cold concrete. Do you have foam
on your garage door? If you have a metal door, i highly recommend
you install it. it's only like $60 or so for the kit at Menards/Lowes
and very easy to install. Just cut, and pressure fit.

No, my door is wood, complete with "rustic" gaps.

Hey Sagworks--

Glad you like the Prima products--I do too. But since I worked on your car at the Dragon, I would like to clarify that M80 and Epic serve completely different functions.

M80 would be more of a replacement for Swirl or Finish. Maybe you meant M21 Synthetic Sealant????

Epic is a synthetic wax more equivalent to functionality to M21 or NXT Tech Wax, though IMO, much better than both!

As a general rule for all of your car care stuff, don't let it freeze. I know this can be hard for those of you with gads of products in an unheated garage, but it's really best to avoid freezing anything.

If your garage gets as low as 35, you're fine. Close to freezing seems to be alright for most products. Under 32 and you can be in some trouble (especially if things freeze and refreeze, etc).

What happens when most products freeze is that they separate in a way that they often cannot remix. Some products can handle a light freeze just once, but it's hard to say just how much is a hard vs light freeze for each product. Certainly though, even those products that can handle one light freeze often can't handle it twice.

If you think you're close to being ok with your low temps in your garage, try measuring the temperature in different areas of the garage. Often different areas can vary by just a degree or two... if you're hovering close to freezing, this 1-2 degree variation can make all the difference.

-Heather

Yeah - I meant M21, got caught up in some other stuff - OOOPPS. Thanks for the correction.

While out working on James' mini I realized how much I want to practice with a porter cable and some sort of part to practice on.

There's really no fear of messing up his MINI with a PC. You saw me working. Did you get my DVD? I don't remember. You can practice on the MINIs, it's really no big deal. There's a lot of fear about using the PC but for most people it actually is less effective than by hand simply because they don't use proper techniques. I.e. they use the PC for the first time and discover additional marring, or they find that scratches they want to take out don't--and its because they didn't apply the correct pressure, or moved the buffer too fast, or chose the wrong pad/chemicals, etc...

It's all about gauging your expectations. The PC can do wonders when used correctly. It doesn't perform miracles, and there are lots of scratches it will never remove. The MINI doesn't have any sharp body panel edges to worry about, so it's really a good platform to learn the PC on.

and away from the garage door should be OK for me.
