New to me, 2004 MCS JCW

Hello All,

I'm joining this forum after purchasing a Chili Red w/ White roof 2004 MCS JCW. I've always liked the Minis since their introduction in the US but never seriously considered owning one. I had a 2007 Mustang GT I bought 4 years ago and made it in to a show car, having detailed the engine, added chrome bits and polished/shined everything. Then one day I realized I wasn't really having any fun with my car. It sat in the garage mostly, only driving it on the weekends to car shows or cruise-ins and never in the rain. I began looking around for a fun car to drive all the time, even in bad weather. I wanted something I could enter a weekend autocross or take it on a road trip to the beach. The Mini seemed to fit what I was looking for so I sold my beautiful Mustang and bought this 2004. Its a higher mileage car, having 119K on the odometer but it runs perfect. I did research and know most of the common issues like mushrooming strut towers, leaking crank position sensor o-ring, leaking rear main seal, bad hydraulic motor mount, etc. My car seemed to have all these except the strut tower issue. I plan on fixing the motor mount ASAP, like this week then the remainder of the issues will be addressed over the winter where I'll most likely just pull the engine and trans out of the car and really clean everything up and replace all the leaking gaskets. Might as well throw a new clutch in too. Thanks for accepting me on this forum and I look forward to future exchanges with the community.

Regards,

Brandon

Thanks ECS Tuning. My first box of car parts should be arriving in the coming days from you.

I was aware the JCW kit was added on at the dealership for my year, it wasn't until later models where it became a factory ordered option. I was wondering if there are any numbers out there as to how many kits were installed in 2004? The plate on the engine is serialized so it certainly must have been tracked by someone.

Here are a few pics. The car is not perfect but that's why I wanted it. I got it for a song and theres work to do which I enjoy.

Very nice wheels , those are the Factory R90 BBS MINI Wheels silver face.

Looks like they have the aero kit and most cars seem to be chili red of that period. They still sell the kits by themselves, so they span across when they were first available , I would guess less then 500 a year were JCW Tuning kit cars and then factory option maybe a little less till 2009 when it was a full factory option. Numbers maybe went up a bit. I have a R58 JCW Coupe and those are pretty low in numbers maybe 100 a year to the US. I also have a Rare R52 Convertible JCW Sound Kit I am a low 100's number and maybe 500 total from 2004-2008 R50 R52 , then of the maybe under 200. These are all estimates. The Sounds kits went finally NLA , so who knows.

Looks like a great project let me know if you need anything when it comes to JCW parts you will not find anyone with more knowledge then me , possibly

Even rarer are R50 Coopers with a JCW Engine Tuning Kit. Few of these kits made it to the US.

yep , it has to be the rarest. I have only seen one car with it and originally though someone applied JCW logos to the side scuttles. LOL

Much more info here.

Would like to put this head and mate it with my JCW sound kit. For only one in the world.

Its like a little portion of the John Cooper R50 Challenge series.

looking at cost vs results I see why it's so rare, still cool though.

Yea, used to be even more $ when launched. And it was the only warranty backed upgrade at that time for a Cooper.
