Detailer's drink... wat do you drink while you work?

been drinking a lot of water while working on my car to keep myself
hydrated... was thinking about getting some gatorade next time as
water doesn't seem to be doing its job especially on a hot day.

wat do you drink while you work?

i think it's time OctaneGuy releases his own Detailer's Drink...

I used to compete in triathlons and did a lot of endurance training.....there are lots of exotic powders and conconctions on the market most of the expensive...... I still use Gatorade.... I assimilate it well..(doesnot upset my stomach) buy it anywhere, relatively cheap..... I prefer "blue".... you need electrolytes..... and after 30 min water does not get it....for the first 30 water is best...... and no calories.... after 30 you need more......it's late...probably does not make sense

I must be missing something here. . I drink gatorade when I play soccer . . . but I detail the car a little more casually. Perhaps it is where you live. I get some exercise while I wash and wax and so on . . . but the car needs to be in the shade so, well, I'm in the shade. I drink cabernet sauvignon.

By the way, since I've got to keep the wife happy, I usually do to her Saab as I do unto myself (MINI). The Saab is much more work . . . but, like, made in the shade.

It depends on the time of day.

Most of the time it is water or Gatorade, but if it was a bad day and in the evening the Captain may be keeping me company.

I love the OctaneJuice idea! Is that OJ??? LOL

Yesterday I detailed an Acura NSX that I had scheduled 2 weeks earlier. I had no idea that the day would end up being 110 degrees, humid, and even rainy.

To stay hydrated, water wasn't cutting it. It made me feel better, but my taste buds wanted something more substantial than no taste. I often will put Gatorade or Propel in my Camelback and sip that throughout the day. But lately, I've been drinking Liptons Diet Citrus Green Tea drink. Two of those, 3 bottles of water, and 2 cans of Diet Cherry Pepsi, and I'm good for the day. LOL. Better if they are cold and not hot.

It's pretty easy to see if you are getting dehydrated or not by how often you need to use the restroom after drinking all these fluids.

How hydrated you are makes a HUGE impact on your energy levels and can make the difference of whether you add another coat of wax, or just pack up and go home!

Btw, the diet drinks are fairly new to me. I've lost 23 pounds and counting in the past 3 months, and I think cutting out regular sodas played a part in that, but working under stress, sometimes having sugar is actuallly a positive thing to help your energy levels.

thanks, OctaneGuy!

guys, jot this down. this is the secret receipe to making your car look good.
it's not so much about the type of wax you use. it's the drinks!

Liptons Diet Citrus Green Tea drink x2
Water x3
Diet Cherry Pepsi x2

time for me to go shopping this week. not for wax, but for the drinks.
im doing my Civic this coming weekend.

be kinda fun to have a OctaneGuy Detailer Starter Kit with all the tools
and waxes and a starter DrinkSet.

Here in AL even in the shade the humidity is a killer so I drink Gatorade. I like the taste plus it's the only thing that I can stand to drink if it gets warm.

For all you wine detailers.... it's always good to keep Gatorade around the house as it is a good hangover preventer &/or shortener

If it's during the day I'll drink Gatorade. If it's at night, when I do the majority of my detailing, I drink Pimpjuice.

I know this is true, but which way does it go? If you have to use the restroom a lot, are you dehydrated, or is the opposite?

Well I'm no expert on the human body, but I do know that if I drink too much water too fast, it all just comes out and instead of detailing, I'm rushing to the customers bathroom every 20 minutes. You can tell by the color of your uhm..urine...whether you're dehydrated or not--and in this case I'm Overhydrated?? Super Saturated?? LOL, I don't know, but it's all water.

I know when you exercise the experts always say drink fluids BEFORE you feel thirsty.

I think there is a balance though, of drinking enough, but not being excessive to the point it's forcing you to expel all the time. Drink too little, and fatigue sets in very quickly, and by the end of the day, you will feel like a ton of bricks hit you. Drink enough, and you'll still feel energized and alert.

That's how it's worked for me. Caffeine obviously dehydrates you and stimulates the need to use the restroom, so that should be avoided. The best solution for me has been the Camelbak since I can sip it all day, it stays cold--can be frozen the night before if desired, don't need to worry about it getting contaminated from insects or debris, and holds enough to provide a full days of hydration for detailing.

For me bathroom access is often sketchy, so avoiding it as much as possible is necessary for my situation.

Dried Fruits
I forgot to mention earlier, I love to snack on dried fruits. I used to eat Costco's trailmix, but during hot weather, I don't want salty or pasty! The Costco Mediterranean Apricots are pretty good, especially if you don't eat healthy and get your daily 5 servings of fruit. =) The dried Mangos are good too but they are kinda stringy, and I don't want anything that requires work.

Three of the above, but most important, first hire Octaneguy to do the detailing!

Well I never drink anything while detailing be it a 1 hour or 4 hour job (8 hours and well I'll have a lunch/dinner break in the middle) afterwards I'll reward myself with some Gatorade, by virtue of my lifestyle it only makes sense for me to buy gatorade in several gallon quantities so I get the powder and generally dilute to half of what is reccomended and keep it cool in the frigde all day, add lots of ice (NOT THE WAX!!!) and it tastes much like a cool glass of lemonade but also keeps me from crashing at the end of the day.

I like BlueBonnet am confused as to why one needs Gatorade while detailing, I mean your in the shade; I've been fine on 100 degree days cause I wait until the final hours of daylight and usually end with drying under several halogens in the garage at not point am I in direct sunlight.

Well if you are sweating you need to drink fluids to replenish what you are losing. 100 degrees in the shade is bad.

In 100 degree weather, I'm wiping the sweat off me with my MF towels every 10 seconds.

100 degrees in the shade with a black car is the pits. Don't recommend it at all.

When the weather is 100+, I'm not hungry, just thirsty. Breaking for lunch or dinner is a non issue, since my body wants more fluid, and keeping hydrated prevents me from getting hungry.
