What color is the car and was it kept inside or out? Some colors fade worse than others. A good detailing job can refresh the paint if it isn't to badly faded.

I would say if you want to debadge it, go for it. The worse thing would be having to buy a new badge and reinstalling it if you didn't like the outcome..

I debadged mine. I used everything to get the gunk off. In the end I used the harsh compound Goo-Off. After I wash the car, sometimes you can see a ghostly image on the COOPER emblem. I just need to re-wax the spot though.

All good points.

I debadged a red 2002 for a friend. This would technically be one of the worst colors as far as fading but it turned out to be a non-issue. The clearcoated paint did not fade.

There was a ghost image where the virgin paint surface under the badge was not matching the more abused clear coat of the rest of the boot. I simply buffed out the area well until it all matched. Took 15 minutes.

I recently debadged my 2002 Cosmos Black Cooper that, although garaged at night, bakes in the Florida sun daily. The ghost image left behind was no big deal. I have to really look for it from about a foot away.

I don't like the look of the raised letters on the boot. I think it looks cleaner with just and MINI badge, and I'd like idiots on the street that want to race me not to know whether I have an S or not (assuming they cannot tell the difference from other obvious clues)

Some people will even remove the MINI badge, but since there are 2 holes in the sheetmetal, that would require body work.

In my second photo, I have a sticker reproduction of a classic Mini badge in place where the original MINI badge had been. I put it there after someone damaged my badge in an attempt to steal it. Eventually, I bought a new badge. . .

I debadged my mini last night after I washed it... just removed the "Cooper s" with some dental floss, peeled off the 2 sided tape and used dome scratch x to get the old wax and crap off from around the old letters...

I like it... The 2 Mini badges are staying though due to the holes and they are ok by me...

I just need to get the guts to take the MINI badges off and paint them black. I have seen some of the ones on this site and they look great.
