Both my door windows are streaked on the inside with this white like film. It starts out wet and dries white and sort of greasy. It seems to be in one or two areas on each of my door windows, not the entire window. It's kind of like the weather strip where the window goes up/down is damp on the inside and is getting a white build up of some sort on the black "velvet" edge. Could the seal for the side mirrors be leaking or is water getting into the doors somehow. I keep cleaning it off but it comes right back. I have tried cleaning off the white build up at the weather strip/window junction, but after a few days it builds back up.

Has anyone else had this happen??? I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to have a broken battery box cover replaced, do you think I should have them look at this problem? I really hate to think of them removing my door panels... in the past with other cars once they "violate" some part of the interior, be it doors or dash, it never seems to be put back together the way it was...and results in squeaks and rattles...

What do you guys think???

P.S. It's not from smoke... I don't...

Thanks, Paul

Happens to me all the time ... I wash it constantly ... on a recomendation from MCO's resident detailing guru, I use Stoner's Invisible Glass ... but I'm to the point that I'm about to remove the entire interior panel so as to be able to throughly clean the black fuzzy wiper ...

Yeah, I'd have them look at it. What the heck, you're going to be there and this is not something that happens to everyone's windows.

Sounds like maybe the window weatherstripping (where the window goes in and out of the door) has been contaminiated with something. Perhaps lubricant (white lithium grease or something like that?) during manufacturing. They should check it out and then replace the weatherstrip.

I've had the same thing going on from day one on my left door only. I still have several months before MiniB is due for the first oil change so I am going to put up with the streaks until then.

Somewhere below the top of the door the window is in contact with a piece of weather stripping that has grease on it. I don't want my door panels removed either but I also don't plan to be wiping the interior of the left window once a week for the rest of my life.

Let us know what your dealer had to say about it.

Mine has this exact problem on the inside drivers door window. The service center said there is nothing they can do as of now to fix this issue.

I just went to my mini dealer parts department inreference to this problem ...They told me to reset the windows.......i was having the same problem ...when i did what they said there hasnt been any more white spots on my doors/
you got to start the car press the window open toggle down and hold it when the window closes for about 10 sec. then push it up and hold it when it closes for about 10 sec. then they should be reset...The windows are supposed to move up when u close them or lock the car automatically sometimes they dont so he said they have to be reset....goood luck

Follow up on window streaking...

I told the service manager about my streaking problem on the inside of the door windows... He had the technician pull the door panels off and clean out the doors and glass...

HOWEVER, he told me that the inside of my doors were LOADED WITH ROAD SALT and that it was getting all over the seals and windows...

The kicker... He said he cleaned them out this time "for free" but if it happened again it was/would NOT be covered by the warranty. This completely blew me away... First: if our doors are getting full of salt and not flushing properly this will surely lead to early rust out of doors... he also stated that it is "just the design of the car"... My car is three months old and has 4500 miles... He also wanted to know if I was washing it... Well I wash my car by hand twice / week... What's going to happen to the inside of the doors after several winters? I can't believe that a problem caused by "poor design" is NOT covered by the warranty...

I have owned many cars and have NEVER had a car that got so much salt in the doors that the inside of the windows got streaked and covered with it.

If so much salt built up inside the doors in a matter of three month, I know it is just going to get worse over time... I'm totally disgusted...

Well people... It's been about a week and a half since my MINI service dept. cleaned out the salt from inside my door panels and now IT's BACK... and even worse... I now have salt crystals accumulating on the fuzzy weather strip where the glass meets the door... Unless I keep the windows wiped off it gets to the point where I can't see clearly in the side mirrors... I phoned the sales manager at my dealer and he said he has another customer in with the same problem... and that I should just drive in and they will clean it out again... Well I guess I have no choice but to drive on out there... What I do want is a REPAIR to this problem... I can't be driving out to the dealers every week or so... Does anyone know how to contact MINI cooper directly by phone... or have a phone number for them???

I can't imagine what this salt must be doing to the metal and electrical connections in the doors... YIKES!!!

Not a happy camper today... Paul

Stress crack sucks big time....

I hope they are replacing it ASAP...

Salt and metal = BAD
Salt and electrical connections = BAD...

2003 MINI Cooper with salt in doors and on windows = ME MAD and VERY SAD!

Good luck with the window...

This topic of streaks came up awhile back, and at the time, the dealer explanation that it was salt buildup seemed ridiculous to me, but it looks like I was wrong. I couldn't see how salt could coat the inside of the door to that level, and I still don't.

WHERE is the salt entering the door? Is it coming in from a poor seal around the windows or is it coming in from the bottom of the door?

Thanks,
JS

Hi Paul!
I experienced a similar issue. I took it upon myself to take a microfiber cloth to both (interior/exterior) pieces of weather stripping. Obviously only after rolling my Windows down completely. This seemed to do the trick! If the problem persists I intend to do the same thing only this time, using either rubbing alcohol or vinegar on the cloth used to wipe the stripping. Hope this helps!
