Pen Sized Chips

Ok, 1700 miles, about 4 of them already...they are very, very small abou tthe size od a head on a pen. They have wax covering them now...

How would I go about "fixing" them? It seems silly to even attempt to place touch up paint on them as that woujld do more harm then good. They are VERY small, yet noticeable. Anything to "protect" them without having to add paint? If so how long does it last? Will wax suffice for this?

Thanks!!!

Grab some body color touch up paint, and dip a toothpick in it. Dab a very very small amount into the hole, just enough to fill it. That's pretty much the best you can do without re-painting. It works fairly well.

Good luck!

I use Langka, and it works exactly as advertized.

Langka rocks! I fixed about 50 chips on my VW GTI and it looked perfect!

Now that you have wax covering the chips, you need to get the wax out of there before doing the touch-up work. Use a strong concentration of Dawn in warm water. I might even use some alcohol after that. I also have a fiberglass pen (fiberglass 'lead' like a pencil inside a plastic holder) that helps to scrub dirt, wax and rust out of the pit (search the forums for 'fiberglass pen' for more info and a link).

The toothpick idea from above was right on. It definately makes it easier.

I've never used but heard rave reviews of Langka. I'm planning on getting some soon.

Thanks for the input all...I shall give Langka a go.

I'm correct in assuming the wax is protecting the "primer" from rusting so to speak, or am I in left field?

The wax is protecting the base metal from rusting. If you are only down to primer, you will have no problems.

Be sure to get the wax out before using the touch-up paint or the new paint will not adhear to the old.

Dawn is something you might want to think about before you do. The problem with Dawn is that it dries out the finish. There are plenty of good soaps that you can buy that will take the wax off without drying out or potentially harming the paint.

Do your research, don't take our word for it, and I definitely wouldn't use alcohol on it... just speaking from personal experience. Preserve your paint!
