Spray for Clay

What is in the lubricant used when you use the clay? I just got my kit and have a full bottle but I am thinking down the road.

Thanks

You didn't think down the road far enough. What brand of stuff do you have? That would be a good place to start. If you run out, a spray bottle with water and just a drop or two of car wash will work. All it needs is a slick lubricant. Any automotive quick detailer is the first choice though.

I don't know exactly whats in it but most people can agree with me that your first choice should always be quick detailer when working with clay. Since quick detailers can get expensive I recommend using "Garry Dean's Infinite Use Detail Juice". His 1 gallon of quick detailer can be diluted to 54 gallons I believe. I do not work for Garry Dean, I think it's just great because it's like a one time investment!

You definitely will want to use a quick detail spray...the slicker the better. The problem with using water or soap with water is that there is not enough lubrication for the sheered off particle to be protected by as its being encapsulated by the clay bar. Using just water or soap and water can result in micro marring on the paint.

You have lots of options for a lubricant. My favorite is Luber by Chemical Guys. Optimum No Rise diluted at 2 oz. per gallon of water makes a very good and economical clay lubricant. If you're looking for something local, I would choose Mother's Showtime.

I think by the Tempe you use a your lube, that clay will be all used up, dirty. Mine is half dirty already, and I have maybe half a bottle of clay lube left.

I used Meguiar's Quik Detailer along with a "not sold in America" Riccardo Blue Clay Bar.
