Coupe Sport Stripes

Can I wax over sport stripes (black stripes/Pepper white mini) or should I tape them off. Thanks for any advice.

Wax the heck out of them, it will help protect them from nasty outside staining influences like bug jerkey, bird poop and tree sap. I'd recommend a good carnuba only because I'm prejudiced that way. DON"T clay or polish over them though, for that, do tape over them.

Yep, wax the crap out of them !

Tongue firmly in cheek, but you get the meaning. Once you get a layer of wax on them, .00001 millimeter is as good as a mile. Just wax them often to keep them protected from the elements as much as possible.

You can use a very thin strip of tape on the edges to keep the wax from getting in there because it's very hard to remove.

And the tape comes in handy if you're polishing the paint because you don't want to polish the stripes or damage the edges as you polish the paint.

If they looked that bad, there was something else going on there. Maybe something got spilled and the wrong cleaner was used, who knows. Sorry it turned out that way. If you ever do decide to replace them it is very easy to do and there are lots of variations from vendors to you-afy your MINI. I replaced bug battered stripes this spring with laminated bonnet stripes (near 4K miles since and not a mark) and added boot stripes. Didn't watch the clock but I doubt if it took an hour for the whole deal. Easy peasy. And I machine waxed the heck out of them once they were on with a random orbital.

Thanks for the info bro. Gonna roll with no stripes and leave the chrome bits for a bit, kind of a "classy" interpretation this first time. Already thinking the next phase will be stripes and carbon fiber
