I think I'm waxing my wheels tomorrow.

I think tomorrow I am going to take off and wax my wheels. I have about 450 miles on the car, so hopefully the brake dust that is there should be minimal and not etched at all yet. That is all, pictures will come tomorrow .

its a very good idea... ive done mine 3 times in the 12000 miles ive had them (theyre cheap aftermarket but still)

keeps them lookin good, though they advertise less brake dust....dont expect anything, cept when cleaning, it helps

also use wheel wax, regular old paint wax will not last long at all and harden enough if you clean them regularly

I'm planning on doing two coats of Epic topped with a coat of Wheel Shield.

That seems like a lot for the wheels. I am semi new to the idea of waxing rims (I tend to be a neat freak and polish them a lot), and am not sure of the preferred method to waxing a rim.

From what I have read here, people are using only the wheel wax. What will the two coats of epic do? Wouldn't amigo be a better Prima product to use?

I just use Hydro on my wheels. After the wash while the wheels are still wet, just spray and wipe off with a paper towel.

On G's wheels I spray into my towel and wipe off. Very easy, very quick. Very effective.

i too use a wax as you dry spray on them after i wash....i like how it makes them easier to dry..... but i would not depend on that for the kind of protection that a wheel wax will give.... but if you do that regularly its better than nothing at all

The reason I am going to double up on Epic is because, it is very durable. But due to the increased heat on the wheels I want to have it doubled just to squeak out as much protection as possible. Covering with a coat of wheel shield will protect the Epic for a little while also.

Using Amigo would do nothing but clean the wheels, since Amigo has no protective properties to it.

Of course you would not do it if you did not think so but I thought Epic could not be layered, the second coat was just to cover any spots that might be missed.
The reason I ask is have Epic on my wheels and I am planning on putting Wheel Shield this weekend. I had planned to wash with Dawn and then put on Wheel Shield.
Any input from Heather, or anyone who knows for sure, would be helpful.

Its not that you "can't" double coat Epic. Its just that since it is so durable, double coating it is almost useless in standard applications. It is also a pain to dual coat epic because you should let it dry for 24 hours before adding a second coat. I will just be waiting about 1-2 hours between coats.

It's been over 5 months since I last waxed them and the dust just wipes off with no effort.

are you using Hydro though?

from wat i can see (was using wheel waxes in the past) it's more convenient and as effective as 'wheel wax' when used on a regular basis. if i was to make my winter wheels survive the months i would use polymer sealant such as Griot's Paint Sealant. no need to use special waxes for wheels. just use the same wax/sealants as you use on your panels.

I use hydro after the wash everytime and it keeps them easy to clean with soap and water. I have a hard time believing that a wheel wax or armour could last much longer than a week or two. Brake dust, heat, rain etc. Wheels go through a lot of torture.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for taking your car apart and playing with it if you have the time or if you are lucky enough to have a garage queen. It's just one of those things that I guess I'll have to try before I believe it.

yep. from my experience they dont last much longer than Hydro.

especially when you have 3pcs wheels like me, applying and completely removing wheel wax is a pita with all the screws, nooks and crannies.

2 done, 2 to go. Took an hour to do the 1st two. I think this will be well worth it, since my wheels still has some sticker residue on them (yuck!) from the factory.

i use RC car motorspray to remove sticky ikky stuff. does not damage paint.
(do not use on anodized finishes).

you can get them from hobbyshops that deal with RC cars. motor spray or nitro engine cleaner works.

Hydro, like Epic will not last on wheels due to the heat. This is why DP sells Wheel Armour which is specifically designed to tolerate the heat that wheels are subjected too. That said I do use Hydro for quick wipes since the brake dust comes off so easy on a wheel treated with Wheel Armour.
As for double coating the Epic; after a day possible, after a couple of hours and you will just be removing the first layer and replacing it with the second.

After about 50 miles of driving last night/this morning. You can't even tell that they've been waxed, but the real test will come when the weekly wash comes next week.

thats a good looking wheel, jeremy.

yah, waxing wheels really isn't for up-ing the appearance but rather maintaining the cosmetics for me.
