Thanks alot, Minnesota...
Dear Minnesota,
On my way from Indianapolis to Minot, ND (hauling a motorcycle)....I traveled through you last night on I-94. Maybe it's because I only stopped for dinner and potty breaks and not to admire your 1,000 lakes, but you punished me!...
Really now....what did I do to deserve this? I have lots of scrubbing ahead of me when I get back home.
What's worse is that you told North Dakota that I was coming! Today he decided to HAIL on my car! (luckily there was no damage that I can see so far...).
I have SD, NE, IA, and IL ahead of me before getting home.....what shall I expect from them?
If I listen to lots of Garrison Keillor and buy lots of 3M products, will you forgive me and give me safe passage back to Indiana?
Sincerely,
Fastlane (writing from a Motel6 in Rapid City, SD)

Oh, let me tell you about the bike! It's a 1967 BMW R69S. It belonged to my neighbor's brother who has had it for years. Recently, he pulled it out of storage and got it running....on the first trip out, the engine died and he never was able to get it going again. Well, I tried to get him to sell it to me about a year ago, but he could not make up his mind about if he wanted to part with it and what he would take for it....so I let it go.
A couple of weeks ago, my neighbor announced that her nephew was coming from ND to visit and pick up the bike and take back. Turns out her brother had gifted the bike to the nephew. He and his wife had planned to take the train to Indianapolis and rent a truck one-way to take the bike back. Well, no trucks were available and the cost to ship it was going to be well over $1000.
This is where I come into the picture. I figured out what the trip would cost me to haul the bike to ND and I gave him a price to bring it to him. He was thrilled....he saved money....I got a free vacation.....plus I made some money. Hence my adventure this week.
Ironically, there is some sort of MAJOR motorcycle meet happening in the Black Hills area this weekend. While driving up to Mt. Rushmore this morning, I saw hundreds (mostly Harley's). Then, for 8 hours on the Interstate today, it was nothing but a constant stream of bikes and bikes on trailers and in truck beds heading that way. It must be a huge event!
This trip has really made me want a bike. I'm going to start looking now I think.

Yes, I know. The bonnet is due to be repainted in a couple of weeks anyway from some damage earlier this spring, so I wasn't worried too much about rock chips or anything (there are already at least 50 chips in the paint on the bonnet already....so what's a few more ).
