I am anticipating getting my MINI this week and looking to start things off in the right direction. I am about to place my order with detailers paradise, I am going to use nero for the interior and 303 on the cloth seats.

-On the exterior plastic which product would you recommend Black WOW or Wizard's black renew?

BW for arches for sure. but you'd probably want a spray type
dressing for your grill down the road.

 

Wizards is good, but it won't last very long.

BW lasts a loooong time and it's also very good. Just be ready for it to collect dust and debris like a magnet for the first week or two (no, I didn't use too much and yes, I did wipe off excess).

 

What type of spray application do you recommend?

 

I have used both. I like the results from both. But black wow seems to stay slicker longer, you get a richer look over a 2 week period.

I still use Wizards on friends cars or on my wife's that has black running boards. However, black wow will be used on anything mini from now on.

 

I have used both and prefer the Black Wow. It works rather well at removing any accidental wax on the trim.

 

I currently use both. I use BW once every other month for re-blackening my trim and Wizard in between for general cleaning. BTW, Black Renew is great on tires so I either use Zaino Z-16 or Black Renew for the rubber.

 

From our testing, both Black Wow and Wizards Black Renew last longer than anything else on the market, hands-down. However, Black Wow will last a good bit longer than Black Renew so ultimately Black Wow wins the durability challenge.

Either you can use both (as MiniMaybee does) or choose one based on your preference.

Most people choose Black Wow and do so for its superior durability. Black Renew is an excellent alternative for those folks who will not use a silicone-based product. I must tell you, though, that Black Wow's silicone is very different from any other silicone you may have used in the past and does not have any of the issues of some of the other silicones out there (there are literally thousands of different kinds of silicones, many of which are VERY different). Still, I've found that there are a few people who just refuse to use a silicone-based product. For them, Black Renew is an excellent choice.

In addition, in many cases, I've found that Black Renew has a bit more cleaning power than Black Wow yet in some cases it seems to be the other way around. I suppose it depends on what you're cleaning, etc. For the purposes of cleaning exterior plastic, I like to have both around to try (which may not be practical for alot of people).

So, I would summarize that unless you're really anti-silicone or have some really stubborn cleaning to do, then go for Black Wow for its superior durability.

Note: As OctaneGuy noted in his recent Vendor Announcement, he is whipping up a fresh batch of Black Wow with which to replenish all of us BW retailers. So, we have Black Wow on a short backorder until we get more... which will be very soon!

As for which product is best? Black Wow lasts longs under harsh conditions especially wet weather. It also works well as a protectant before waxing your car--put BW on trim, then wax, and no worries about excess wax turning the trim white, though Prima Epic really doesn't do that anyways.

The dust attraction issue happens because BW doesn't dry, it soaks into the plastic like a moisturizer and stays there until it wears out. Until the surface is cleaned--either by the next wash or a wipedown with a slight wet rag, you may experience some dust issues.

In general, there is also a cumulative effect with BW. As you apply more BW to the trim over time, less is required. That's why I suggest people dedicate an applicator pad.

I have not had much luck using black wow at getting out the wax i stupidly got on my trim, but will try Wizards and see if it does any better.

 

I don't like the sponge that's included there.
How much did you use and what type of applicator did you use? The cleaners are mild--you need to use more than a sesame seed sized drop when cleaning. Also it helps to use an applicator with some bite. A red shop rag works decently--assuming the lint doesn't bother you. The sewn edge of the Skinny Microfiber is excellent as well.

lol that's not a sponge, that is a foam pad. it's small in diameter
and wont get BW on your hands.

 

Yeah that's what I mean--I don't like those foam sponge type of applicators. lol
The wax will need some rubbing if it's a heavy buildup. It won't just wipe off. If it was that easy, I'd be worried about getting BW on your paint--removing existing wax or worse.

While it requires some rubbing, it's less rubbing than if you didn't use BW or used alcohol.

Just remember that only about 1/10th of every drop of BW contains a cleaner, the rest is silicone. If you need more cleaner, you need more BW. That was why I was working on a dedicated cleaner--but I got stalled due to other commitments...as you are well aware of, lol.

I've never used Black Renew but I have used Black Wow. The last time I applied it was a month and a half ago. I wash my car at least once a week, sometimes twice, and it's holding up very well. I'd say I'll probably need to put more on in two weeks. Great product and very durable.

Not true--I won't sell anything that I don't like. However if enough customers ask for it--I might find a solution, lol.

The best applicator is still the MF Skinny, IMO.

Yeah I'm actually with Ken on the shoe polish applicators for BW. I tried it on his suggestion and I much prefer it to the DP skinny pad for it (I still use them for Epic, though!).

 

yah, it was my way of returning the favor of your suggestion of
Target's vRoom tire dressing applicators.

 

The DP Blue Skinny is the best for BW. I've used other foam applicators and you just can't scrub with them like you can with a skinny. Plus nearly 100% efficiency with the product - very little soak-in waste.

 

extremely low waste on the kiwi pad (it's a firm pad, product stays
at the top) and better yet, wont get on your hand either. plus it's small
so very easy to control right up to the edges. no need to mask if you
have a steady hand.

and i guess the best part is you can get them at the supermarket
if OG doesn't carry them by now.

 

so, safe to say that there's no need to apply black wow on the trim if i'm to
use prima epic?
